Ben McDonald Greg Swindell (Burt Hooton did not get enough respect, he may have been the best one ever) This article is such great fun, everyone should read it: https://www.espn.com/college-sports...voted-espn-greatest-all-college-baseball-team
Ensberg hurt his shoulder and his career fell off like Carlos Hernandez's...Daryl Ward turned from Yordan-esque to a singles-happy hitter. Jason Lane considering the hype was a disappointment... so high hopes for him -- enough so that I thought the Beltran trade was not worthwhile at first.
He was supposed to be at the same level as Clemens. Made his debut at 21 and similar success at Texas.
Thought Daryle Ward was going to be big time. Of course I felt the same about Singleton & Reed. I should just quit trusting in LH 1B prospects.
Oh absolutely, he just didn't live up to the lofty expectations after his time at UT. Anyone who sticks in the bigs for 3+ years is a success as far as I'm concerned. **** ain't easy.
Martes released on martes. I thought he was the real deal also. Same with Wade Miller, Carlos Hernandez, and Jason Hirsch.
I was big on Singleton as well. We honestly never really know with him. He took the money and drank and smoked himself out of the league.
Wade Miller and Hernandez would have been if it weren’t for injuries. Scott Elarton fits in this group as well
Nearly a 19% barrel rate in his first 30 PA. Hit one the other day 111 mph, matching the hardest hit ball Kyle Tucker has had all season. Pretty damn impressive.
He's been fairly patient so far and has already displayed his ability to drive the ball to all fields. Still showing more swing and miss than one would like, but not abysmal. Not ready to crown the kid, but all in all it's hard not to like what we've seen since Dusty was forced to let him out of cryo storage.
Hopefully the K% will drop to something in the low 20s. His K-rate this season in AAA was acceptable and it appears that his power is real and not a fluke of playing a bunch of AAA games in New Mexico and El Paso which, with his defense, gives him a very high (all star) ceiling as a player.
With Meyers power, speed, and defense, if he can keep his k rate <25% and his bb rate >8% he will be a star level player.
A person like Meyers gives me reason not to listen too closely to the reports that the Astros have one of the worst mlb farms. It seems like each year a new prospect emerges from the blue
In Astros History the Astros do have the best Farm Systems. Impact on other teams Johan Santana JD Martinez Josh Hader Bobby Abreu Luis Gonzalez Steve Finley Curt Schilling Kenny Lofton Talk about big time Turnaround after they left the Astros.
Jake has more power, is 2” shorter (5 lbs heavier) and a righty but for some reason I think of Darin Erstad. Not a comparison so much as Darin comes to my mind for some odd reason.
