More about backroom politics and trying to leverage control in NCAA voting decisions, it's like game of throne right now. Will the SEC counter by raiding another conference, or trying to get one to backstab the other 2. Most of the remnants of the big 12 are gonna be left to bleed out because they bring no power to the table.
At this point, if it's just a grab for what's left, the SEC may start snatching up schools from the Big 12 and AAC just for numbers and market share. They've got the big fish...but if you're gonna have 3 conferences combine to 1 essentially, 16 schools isn't enough. Regardless, the NCAA is in big trouble here. Again, I just hope this doesn't kill March Madness.

The NCAA is in TROUBLE! Is it though? As a fan - the idea of a slate of games that include the super SEC + alliance conferences, just... sounds... fun as hell. I might be glued to my couch on Saturday's like I was in college. The only people in trouble are a few Big 12 schools and the schools in whatever conference SMU is in. And... I still think most of the Big 12 teams will find a home. Note - I'll be at the Baylor/UT game this year (to pay my respects, lulz). Either wearing regular clothes or MAYBE an Aggie shirt if I'm feeling spicy. I don't even think I can find an Aggie shirt in my closet. Who knows where my ring is.
I'm not talking about college sports being in trouble. I'm talking about the NCAA as a governing body...the entity, itself. It appears to me it's going to get kicked to the curb, and that's a major motivator for all of this activity. Regardless, the NCAA is the organization that provides for the mens basketball tournament...and random schools from all over the country compete in that..not just schools from 4 or 5 conferences. I hope THAT doesn't go away because of this.
I'm starting to think no one takes another big 12 team Expansion would be the only solution for now. From what I've read, the most valuable adds would be BYU, Houston, and UCF. 4th team could be Cincy, Memphis, or Boise (all apparently around the same in terms of money). This is actually good for the Kansas and Christian schools. If the Pac wants to match their partner conferences and move to 14, they could look at Tech and OK State. I know the schools/markets we want are San Diego State and UNLV but they aren't there yet, although San Diego is getting close

yeah, i have no idea. i just don't think traditional conference values are gonna matter much anymore. if the SEC could grab all of Texas....given the specter of the Big10/Pac alliance, I could definitely see value in that. I'm biased and you all know that. I went to Baylor for undergrad and UH for law school. My older son is at UH now as a senior. I want UH and Baylor to have a place that matters going forward.
I think scheduling alliances are a bit overrated. These conferences already have 9 conferences plus generally one B5 non-conference game and 2 scrubs. At most, it probably means the B5 non-conference game is one of the 3 conferences instead of the SEC or B12, and maybe they add a 2nd one. Overall, it seems like a pretty minor change in the grand scheme of things for everyone except the B12 who might lose their marquee non-conference games.
Major, I'm tired of hearing about academic requirements from conferences with Ole Miss and Oregon State
To clarify, meant holding their weight in terms of markets, branding, and eventually a bigger tv deal. With equal revenue sharing, don't think schools will be all the keen on bringing anyone in just to get to a certain number of teams. Believe it's posted somewhere in here but the number of viewers for UT/OU games vs all the other Big 12 schools were ridiculously skewed. I assume the numbers for AAC schools don't fare any better.
