Short term immediate reaction is... well, just incoherent. So, I would say, no we haven't learned much. Ipsos interview on 8/16: https://fingfx.thomsonreuters.com/gfx/polling/lbvgnnggapq/Afghanistan_Snap_Topline.pdf +A. BULLS EYE!!!!! Sick and tired of every candidate saying they will bring our military home and then they don't because of politics... I'm glad Biden pulled them out an not giving a **** about the political fall out..... T_Man
Weren't you just reproaching folks for dodging the question? Now you do the same thing. They've also said they did table-top exercises on many scenarios, including the one that unfolded. So they can't say they were caught by surprise. Did it look this bad in the table-top exercise? Now, I'm no expert, but I'd say one thing you could do was expedite those applications for visas that were promised to Afghan translators that have been languishing for years. Another step you could take is to withdraw Americans and Afghan collaborators to Kabul so they'd be easier to evacuate if it became necessary. It's a good question really. Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions about how terrible this pullout was until we see what the aftermath is, how many US citizens are killed, what is the extent of reprisals against collaborators we failed to evacuate, etc. I'm expecting it to be ugly, but I don't really know anything. I sure hope so, but I know better. Republicans would have been glad to follow Trump into Iran. Thank god he didn't try. And I doubt Democrats are immune to the siren call of telling other people what to do either.
I answered the question, the unhinged comment dealt more with the incredibly long, exclamation and explicit filled presentation of the other posters responses.
Media now wants us to protect Tajikistan Get ready for more "leaks" that will be reported by CBS or NBC. How refreshing it is to hear a true anti war white house WOW. It feels so refreshing
To this day I still don't why the USA needs military in other countries. Specially with Governors like Abbott in power in the US. We see the intentions here in 4K
The airport definitely was insane, but honestly that's not that much military equipment left behind in the grand scheme of things. People act as if we are leaving around a dozen MOAB's, two nukes, and a USS Oklahoma. The Taliban will only be able to prop up a credible military if they get assistance from Russia, China, and have some sort of income from exports that their citizens can make so they can tax, and have revenue to buy stuff, and maintain it. The main thing they need though is engineers, and equipment from a foreign power like China. I don't get why people are freaking out about a few hundred guns, and some Humvees left behind. They'll just have M16's in pictures now instead of the Soviet AK's left over. Also since there's more guns in Afghanistan now too it should be more safe now and Republicans should feel better about traveling there.
Trump continues to be the best gift politically for Joe Biden. The White House should campaign to have him Twitter ban lifted ASAP.
From today's press conference the milley confirmd at the 16 minute mark BIDEN WAS NEVER GIVEN THE POSSIBILITY OF A 11 DAY TAKE OVER. NOBODY IN THE INTEL DEPARTMENT EVER GAVE THAT OPTION TO BIDEN. All you assholes bashing biden for not pulling out staff before how the fk could he if he was never given that risk by his army and cia?!?! You're blaming the wrong the damn person! Sad how brainwashed people are
The President told you 6 weeks ago the Afghan forces were one of the most well equipped forces in the world. Those forces disappeared. The weapons didn't. Who the do you think has control of those now?
It's probably already on its way to China, or Russia, or Iran who exchanged it for millions of dollars or maybe other weapon systems. So the Taliban becomes potentially even more lethal while our most powerful rivals/enemies study the simulator and learn capabilities and weaknesses of an F-15.
Seeing the same people try to scrutinize the exact thing they've been begging for, paint your faces clowns. We got out of afgan, terrific, celebration time, it's 20 fckin years of stupidity, money-wasting, bombing civilians, killing our troops, there was no excuse to be there after Bin Ladi and al cadi were off'd USA USA USA! Iraq, Lybia, Somalia and Syria next plz
This is bin Laden, look at his head noddin' How could we allow something like this without pumping our fists Now this is our final hour Let me be the voice in your strength and your choice Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise Try to amplify the times it, and multiply by six
