The taliban took over huge terrorities in the past 12 months and had tens of thousands of troops come from Pakistan since the beginning of the year. The ONLY choices biden had were to either add more troops OR remove them cold turkey. The military told biden that once he decided to withdraw that they would have to do it urgently to protect american lives as they were already staying past the trump deadline. Afghan President called biden earlier this month and told biden if he started withdrawing embassy staff his army would lose even more morale and they would run away. Obviously playing monday morning quaraterback its easy to say that biden shouldnt have trusted him but this was the same president that the past 2 administrations supported and helped funnel hundreds of billions too. Biden made the only choice that was right and he is a hero for doing so. This was always going to be ugly and it was a **** fest. People literally have no idea how incompetent the afghan army is. Half of the commanders are pedo and rape their young soliders. Anyone who thinks anything could've been accomplished by staying another year or week need to watch this. We were propping a scam and a con. They were NEVER capable of defending themselves

Every poster on this forum that claims we should've stayed longer watch this video from the 52:37 minute mark where the afghan commander says, "if they dont **** the assholes of these boys then what do they ****." We were supporting child rape and molestation for DECADES in the name of "democracy" and now magically people are worried about womens rights? The afghan military TOLD the us army that child rape was common among its soliders. What bout the rights of young boys that were getting raped by the afghan army UNDER US COMMAND nd we said NOTHING.
I appreciate this insight, and I see you point. I don't disagree that forces should have been withdrawn, I dont think anybody disputes that, but the band-aid rip wasn't the way to do it. Biden was warned by intel the consequences of a swift withdrawal, and he did it anyway, leaving Afghan civilians and thousands of american citizens in great peril. I dont know what the right way to do it should have been, but until that way was found, forces should have stayed in place.
