I posted this in another thread.... It was not like no one was informed of what was going to happen... It was decided in a meeting with everyone there...

As I stated in the other thread.. There is no perfect solution or Option and no matter which Option was chosen it was a FUBAR!!!!.....

"The NATO-led mission Resolute Support Mission (RSM) in Afghanistan was launched on 1 January 2015, following the completion of the mission of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Its aim was to provide further training, advice and assistance for the Afghan security forces and institutions. In April 2021, the Allies decided to start the withdrawal of RSM forces by 1 May 2021. The drawdown of all US and RSM forces should be completed within a few months. NATO Allies and partners will continue to support the ongoing Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process towards a lasting and inclusive political settlement."

"The Biden administration will deploy 3,000 troops to Afghanistan in order to facilitate the drawdown of personnel at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul as the Taliban rapidly advances toward the Afghan capital.

The troops, which will consist of three infantry battalions in total from the Marines and Army, will deploy to Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport within 24 to 48 hours, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said during a press briefing Thursday.

“This is a very narrowly focused mission of safeguarding the orderly reduction of civilian personnel out of Afghanistan,” Kirby said, adding the Pentagon expects to increase its airlift capability in the region."

When you are the only thing in the way between marauders from Pakistan who want to take over and people who aren't willing to protect themselves, there really isn't an easy way to leave. Either you stay forever or you just leave and let **** hit the fan.

    Thank you sir....

It just kills me that people keep trying to politized this move... For me all I care about is that my brothers and sisters are coming home...

I know people and have friends that been injured both mentally and physically from this war... And trust me the MENTAL is no freaking joke to deal with....

The other part that kills me is the people that are arguing and politicizing the most, probably never served one day in the military and more than likely never in a combat situation. What most are doing is basically being a "Monday Morning QB"... I would have done this or they should have done this....

Takes a lot of courage and guts to serve. Where were you deployed?

The mental side is absolutely no joke, agreed. PTSD and trauma from wars is no small thing. Many many many years of therapy, emotional support animals and/or experimental MDMA in a clinical setting I hear helps. Although I've never had war PTSD. But I did do a clinical trial for magic mushrooms (psilocybin) one time and that helped a bit with my mental health issues.

Ya he definitely has independent thoughts.

If you mean "independent" as in "I agree with everything he says", ya he's "independent".

The worst part of Biden being the one to pull out is now the right wing has returned to their aggressive warhawk nature because it wasn't Trump who did the pull out.

    Sucks.

'right wing' the name is getting marginalized ,boxed in on the daily..it's turned into a parody of itself the bearded gunned up overweight cosplayer ..

But war hawks will be war hawks..and they aren't just bush/cheney .. although you could call them the other fractured piece of 'right wing' you can be assured that group isn't going anywhere. Those guys hated trump too

And yet I had forgotten about Pompeo negotiating with the Taliban last year, with the Afghan government out of the room.

Not to switch the narrative too much. God bless Chris Wallace, one of the few reporters who'll call b***s*** to these people's faces on FOX (God bless him because if the network had more like him then it would be a legitimate counterpoint to CNN).

The one positive aspect of Trump was his non-interventionist rhetoric seeped through the right wing because of the cult of personality he created where they follow him like a hive mind.

Now that Biden was the one who pulled out, that is all thrown out the window.

Afghanistan’s military collapse: Illicit deals and mass desertions

KABUL — The spectacular collapse of Afghanistan’s military that allowed Taliban fighters to walk into the Afghan capital Sunday despite 20 years of training and billions of dollars in American aid began with a series of deals brokered in rural villages between the militant group and some of the Afghan government’s lowest-ranking officials.

The deals, initially offered early last year, were often described by Afghan officials as cease-fires, but Taliban leaders were in fact offering money in exchange for government forces to hand over their weapons, according to an Afghan officer and a U.S. official.

Over the next year and a half, the meetings advanced to the district level and then rapidly on to provincial capitals, culminating in a breathtaking series of negotiated surrenders by government forces, according to interviews with more than a dozen Afghan officers, police, special operations troops and other soldiers.

    ...

The Taliban capitalized on the uncertainty caused by the February 2020 agreement reached in Doha, Qatar, between the militant group and the United States calling for a full American withdrawal from Afghanistan. Some Afghan forces realized they would soon no longer be able to count on American air power and other crucial battlefield support and grew receptive to the Taliban’s approaches.

“Some just wanted the money,” an Afghan special forces officer said of those who first agreed to meet with the Taliban. But others saw the U.S. commitment to a full withdrawal as an “assurance” that the militants would return to power in Afghanistan and wanted to secure their place on the winning side, he said. The officer spoke on the condition of anonymity because he, like others in this report, was not authorized to disclose information to the press.

The Doha agreement, designed to bring an end to the war in Afghanistan, instead left many Afghan forces demoralized, bringing into stark relief the corrupt impulses of many Afghan officials and their tenuous loyalty to the country’s central government. Some police officers complained that they had not been paid in six months or more.

“They saw that document as the end,” the officer said, referring to the majority of Afghans aligned with the government. “The day the deal was signed we saw the change. Everyone was just looking out for himself. It was like [the United States] left us to fail.”

    ...

When an Afghan police officer was asked about his force’s apparent lack of motivation, he explained that they hadn’t been getting their salaries. Several Afghan police officers on the front lines in Kandahar before the city fell said they hadn’t been paid in six to nine months. Taliban payoffs became ever more enticing.
