Pretty interesting. After spending a good amount of time in Detroit can corroborate.

Strangest society/attitude and dystopian Orwell world. The people throwing **** sums up a majority of the burb folks over there especially the John Green guy that threw the cup…always trying to start crap with no remorse

“Do you regret throwing the cup and starting the melee”?

“I only regret not sticking my foot out and tripping him he thought it was the guy next to me”

I live for being in the middle of massive uncontrollable brawls particularly at MMA events.

What a b**** that threw the beer. Almost got that one guy backhanded but he didn't even flinch cause he was wasted or something. I thought those 3 were about to get taken by the one crazy guy but 1 homeboy just kept taking it until he finally got him off balance and then started getting headshots in. NFL has so many fights like this it's crazy.

Jermaine O'Neal's sliding right cross into that unsuspecting doughboy will forever be burned into my mind. Simultaneously hilarious, awesome, and horrible.

This whole thing was a clusterf#ck from the court to the arena through the league and the media.

So, yes. It came at a time where David Stern was trying to "so-called" clean up the league's image,
Because, of it's reputation of closeness to hip-hop, which he almost pointed directly at Allen Iverson, unjustly.
They had their little dress-code, as they also were trying to improve the league's ratings from it's peak, during the Jordan years.
The games were becoming stagnant and low-scoring with the ball dominated by one or two players, not great deal of ball-movement and 3 point shooting.
Low TV ratings had permeated the league.
Everything was becoming hyper focused on defense and hard fouls were a little more common. A game that's slowed down and too physical.
The media was already complaining about the NBA, how it was different the Bird-Magic years or the Jordan years. The league was becoming less family friendly and unwatchable. Casual fans cannot relate to the average player in anyway.

The Malice in the Palace happened.
That all reared it's ugly head across our culture and the mainstream media.
They said the NBA had no control over its player, even though players fight in the NFL, MLB, or NHL on regular basis. Still do to this day, and it was never anything this serious. Even, the few run-ins with fans. [Not saying the Malice in the Palace was excusable, because it wasn't]. Fans have been beaten, shot, and killed after several NFL and MLB games.
NBA players and some of their fans were the dregs of society for those few months after the incident.
The NBA was a trash league with violent players.

Now, people complain about the league being too offensively dominated and 3 point shooting. They say the players don't play defense anymore, and they cannot relate to the average player.
They say the players are too nice, now. They should be tougher, and they don't like play physical or get tough contact.
There's nothing, but super teams and players playing with their friends, like they are at the playground.

    Massive *cringe*

When people criticize the NBA, I almost stop listening.
