This is no different then when Scooter when down with the Vipes and was told "become a PG" so he worked on all facets related to distributing the ball with that vision in place. Same thing here. They are going to run sets and schemes that Silas and the big team will run so why lose yourself and waste the time you have to practice something you wont use in the future? This team was flawed the minute they decided Kyree Thomas was going to be the only PG for them. As it was - the team fed off of the shaky JG ball control and distribution, but at least there was someone out there playing the alpha. This team wont win another summer league game, but thats ok.
btw i dont know which of the two would be worse (or more hilarious! lol) 1. if coaching staff!!! really really told them so 2. if they told them the opposite but players reacted like this to the advice lolololololol
LOL its never ever a waste of time to practice discipline, good decision making and excercise basketball iq, because you gonna need it in any scheme you gona use in future, even if your scheme is as dumb as: Screw learning to pass or getting teammates involved. Play completely out of control and execute as many 1 on 3’s as you can. Dribble around the perimeter and jack up well contested 3’s.
I doubt the coach told them and if they were told and didn't pass and the coaching staff didn't do anything like put them on the side or take them out then that's still on the coaching staff for me, most likely the coaching staff asked them to play their game. to see all their strenghts and weaknesses. see everything which works and doesn't.
lol if they would only give ball to alperen he wood have played PG as good as any of the rockets current guards ....
Cmon now Hakeem - I know you want to showcase Sengun, but as long as Silas is in charge it will be a guard driven philosophy. All the traits you mention are going to be lacking on any team with as many young players. Some of you guys are new to summer league ball it seems. Its ALWAYS Chuck City USA.
I don't think that's a long term goal. I can understand moving the ball and team passing as a long term goal.. but asking Sengun and another big to play point like Joikic or Doncic or Draymond?
I agree with everything except the Sengun part. He did not CHUCK. 10 shots on 50% shooting is not chucking. Hell, he can't even chuck even if he wanted to when the entire team is playing keep away from him.
coaching staff said they want him to play in variety of ways... so why not try this... i think he could have legit pulled it off.. at least in SL... whenever he had the ball last night something good happened and he just knew what to do unlike any other player he could definitely do it jokic style... his handles are better than jokic imho at least its a worthy experiment, much worthier than testing waters whoever
i dont think the chuck part reffered to sengun...lol it was just an unhappy and clumsily composed sentence order
Jokic has a prerty good jumper Snegun doesn't. More similar to green. Ball facilitator/mover But my goal isn't trying to win one SL game. I can understand if the coaches would firt like to see everyones strengths and wakenesses first as goal for this summer league
Oh I re read that part and that's not what I meant, sorry about that! It was more Sengun played well *new comment* there was a lot of chucking (by the team as a whole).
hahahah i love the positivity but the asphault playground i am just preparing to go to play in cuople of hours is seeing better play and higher basketball iq on a daily basis
hmmm nice thinking but they already failed in my mind if they didnt knew all that even before the draft let alone this deep in summer league
thats perfectly fine to know their strengths and weakness on paper and individual workouts VS strengths and weakness playing with their new teammates against other NBA summer league rosters on NBA rules and 3 pt line
Still trying to process that Weaver quote and figure out whether I hate it or not. I get that they want to play a style that will translate to the big club, and that’s going to be mostly guards chucking and Sengun fighting for scraps, at least in his rookie year. I’m ok with that. But it also feels like we are already putting him in a box and putting a ceiling on him, like sticking Green in a corner and telling him just to spot up. Again, I’m not totally opposed to it because he has a lot to adjust to and can slowly earn the touches, but in summer league it would be nice to just let him loose and see what he can do. The other thing is right now his biggest problem seems to be finishing his easy bunnies inside, either rushing it or adjusting to opponent’s speed/length. If that’s the case why not get him as many reps as possible so that he can adjust sooner?
At least I like that he’s taking 2 threes a game now. Also one thing I’ll say about Silas and his system that is supposedly guard friendly is that Olynyk had a career year playing in it. I think that bodes well for Sengun because he will be asked to do many of the same things.
