Watching MLB network and they showed his grand slam, Harold Reynolds evoked the name of Mike Trout when discussing the athleticism of Meyers. This farm system is still elite even after trading away a bunch of prospects the last few years.
Just hope he gets to have consistent at bats so he can continue to contribute late in the season and going into the playoffs.
He's 4 for 14 but his 1st 3 at bats were 1 at bat a game. When he gets more than 1 at bat, he's gone, 1 for 3, 1 for 4, and 2 for 4 and in all 3 games, he's scored at least a run.
Comp wise his ceiling reminds me a lot of George Springer, late bloomer so he’ll need to put it together quick but he just oozes tools. Very enigmatic, but I suppose the lost COVID season could explain the seemingly rapid development. At the very least I expect him to be an all out hustle, fan favorite guy that routinely makes great catches and absolutely yeets some baseballs.
Chas was 3-10 with 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 R and 5 RBI in his first 3 full* games. Tyler White went 8-12 with yadda yadda JR Towles went 7-16 in his first 4 with ... He looks good, lets give him some time before he's anointed as the next anything
I think Nook comped him to AJ Pollock and I thought that was good, although I think Meyers will strikeout more but might offset that with more power. But yes, Meyers has the ceiling of an all-star with the likely floor of a playable 4th OF. He’s a valuable player. Based on his comments it sounds like Baker is playing him reluctantly. But that won’t be an issue after this season. It’ll be interesting to see who the opening day CF is next season.
Easy fellas. Doesn't have to be a Springer or Trout. I'll be happy if he can be another Jake Marisnick.
Man I miss me some Springer. Just watching him on the blue jays, it makes me sad. We had this guy and he was having fun on our team.
Meyers is very unlikely to be as good of a hitter as Springer. But he is likely to be a better defensive player. The midpoint between Marisnick and Springer is probably a good expectation for if Meyers hits his ceiling.
Yermin Mercedes hit .556 and had an OPS over 1.400 his first 28 at bats. 3 months later he was in the minors.
There have been a jillion (ballpark estimate) guys who come into the league and go nuts...then the league figures them out and it's adjustment time. Some make 'em, some don't.
He only went 4-9 with no HR or RBI...pretty weak stuff. And to clarify, I wasn't referring to what Reynolds or you said, just the general hype train of the past 12 hours.
Pretty sure they were referring Tuffys opening day with the Cubs when he bashed three home runs. I could be wrong though.
