Because most of this money isn't going to infrastructure. It's going to human infrastructure. I.E. Socialism. Just another way to redistribute wealth on the down low.
I just want to hold onto as much money as I can that I've earned. Tell me why the govt should be able to take money I've earned through hard work and GIVE it to somebody else who hasn't earned it. BTW, I'm not rich but comfortable and have worked hard throughout my lifetime.
Yeah we all do, but it looks like the poor and middle class are losing the battle Hopefully, we can slow the rate of this wealth redistribution.
I hope they tax you appropriately according to your income. I pay my fair share too and don't mind if others benefit from it. Isn't that what democracy is all about?
I thought democracy was about freedom What does taxation have to do with freedom? In fact taxation limits freedom because you have less money to spend. Of course I'm not one of those guys that envy people who make more money than I do.
We elect officials and they make decisions based on that. The majority of our current representation wants to raise taxes on the wealthy along with expansion of social programs and I think that's a very good thing if it benefits society as a whole. Were you complaining when Trump cut taxes during an economic boom for the rich when it wasn't necessary? I did but again as they keep saying elections have consequences...
Just for the record, most money that is paid in taxes doesn't just go to people who haven't earned it. It goes to things like military, interest on the debt, etc. There is a large percentage that goes toward social programs but those help the nation as a whole not just the people that are directly affected. The largest benefactors are the elderly. I don't know how many have or haven't earned whatever services they get, but cutting those services would require more financial burden on earning families, health risks, and potential death as well. Theoretically, people that can't eat, work, afford to live, will have a higher rate of crime. So taxes saved from some of those social programs will instead go to police, prisons, etc. The nation is better off with more services and preventing the larger increases in crime. Either way the taxes will be used. It's just a matter of if you want them preemptively, and proactively on social services, or reactively on law enforcement, trials, and prisons.
"Taxation limits freedom. . ." What do you think paid for the roads you are free to drive on, the military that protects the freedom we have from those who would take it away, the public school systems that educate our children? Taxes.
It also pays for these things: https://moneyminiblog.com/lists/stupidest-things-u-s-government-spends-money-on/ Your statement here really doesn't refute what you quoted. (IMHO) But I understand what you're trying to say...that we all sign off on an implicit agreement as citizens to chip in for the greater good. Yes. We do and this is undisputed. But when you get beyond the easy things like the military, roads, and schools and start paying for research into playing World of Warcraft then some of us part ways. So it comes down to the question...is our Federal Govt out of control when it comes to spending the people's money? And I would say that the answer is...yes.
I would be the last person to say that all our taxes are spent wisely. Members of Congress, regardless of who is president, search endlessly for ways to move federal money into their district, into their state. They insist that we purchase military equipment that the military doesn't want, for example. I'm all for congressional oversight of our military, but far too often the oversight is more to make sure that the expenditures feather their political nest. What irritates me are the blanket statements made without context, which is not directed at you, that "taxes are bad." Some taxes certainly are, just as some tax cuts are bad policy. In my humble opinion.
Agreed and I would be a happy man if that's what our taxes supported. We would have alot more money in our pockets.
I am convinced you have no idea how Democracy works. Taxes are essential to Democracy. Everyone contributes. Everyone voted. Everyone agree to change to the good or bad decisions they made and makes changes or keeps things in place for the time being. Without taxation everything falls apart. If one segment pays more than the rest than that creates leverage and influence which defeats the purpose of democracy. Paying your taxes is one of the most patriotic things you can do as a freedom loving American.
I agree with this. for the life of me I cant figure out why people are willing to give up more of their income to the govt. I guess when you have no income you will vote for higher taxes.
