The first sentence of the corporate statement says "began an internal investigation into allegations of plagiarism...after a journalist got in touch with us about his own research for a story."

So, that should pretty much answer your question.

I guess the point is that "fact checkers", whether Snopes folks or people employed by Twitter or Facebook have their own biases.

While it’s true they have some biases, I don’t see what plagiarism has to do with that. Is it that it indicates a rush to publish something without properly vetting it?

That’s too bad if people draw the conclusion that Snopes is no longer credible due to this. They do good work, in general.

Hmm, I guess its newsworthy that you discovered that factchecking organizations are made up of people, and people can and usually do have biases. OK, so neither of that is newsworthy nor compelling. Especially when the instance you are posting as "bias" is really about a question of "plagiarism" or more precisely laziness and failure to vet. But what is noteworthy is that (1) it was caught and (2) it was addressed. If anything, it would make me even more apt to believe what snopes reports since it shows they do pace importance on checking up on their own work and owning up when its not to their standards.

The free market of fact checkers. Fact checkers can check each other. Go, check snopes.

make it public so it can be checked

Snopes have links to backup their checks. I don’t know about twitters and FB. But if it’s not public, then it’s not as trustworthy in my book.

Unfortunately, the story is only interesting because it gives Fox viewers more confirmation bias: everything and everyone outside conservative media is part of liberal bias machine, especially scientists and so-called fact-checkers. (sic)

But this doesn’t move the needle. I doubt many of our conservative relatives paid any mind when we sent them Snopes links.

I still find it useful for my own info checking.

So are you implying that Snopes leans left?

I think he's implying that conservatives in today's era are the ones that generally ignore facts. For those people, anything that doesn't fit their predetermined world view is left-wing-bias in their mind.
