You really can't draw that conclusion without also having a control case where masking was not encouraged under similar circumstances. So, no, that's not proven depending on what you mean by effective, especially given data that does show correlation between masking mandates and reduction of infection rates. https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2020.00818 https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7010e3.htm?s_cid=mm7010e3_w https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2776536
Policy decisions have to weigh risk vs rewards. Each of us at a personal level does that all the time and understands this well. When it comes to masking, the risks vs rewards are easy for policymakers. There is plenty of good data, but you don't need great data given the huge upside and very little downside. When it comes to vaccination, the risks vs rewards is not easy and you should want very solid data. As for the type of masking, there is undoubtedly a range of protection and transmission based on the type of masks. The good thing is it doesn't have to be N95 or nothing. There is always grey in between. I think it's not realistic to ask K-5 to wear N95. They might as well stay home at that point. It's realistic to ask them to wear cloth or surgical level masks - we and plenty around the world have done it for months. I recently saw a video from a TN school board meeting where people were threatening doctors who advised the school board for masking students. I wouldn't have imagined this level of anger over masking. It's pretty amazing and sad to see.
You might want to re-examine the way you use and analyze actual evidence. Based on your posts in this thread, the methodology that you use to come up with this conclusions isn't really supportive.
That's pretty damning. Although 50ish percent is higher than I thought for Trump lovers @SuraGotMadHops @dachuda86
I see it as all about titer. If you and I mask up, while I’m shedding virus, and we work in the same room, you’ll definitely still be exposed, but to a much lower viral load, and that gives your immune system a much better chance to fight it off. of course, the way my coworkers “wear a mask” makes this scenario less compelling.

Yep. Masks don't work on virus spread. The disappearance of the flu last season was because of the genius of Trump. If it weren't for kids and medical practioners, I would say let everyone die. Natural selection in action, but they don't believe in evolution either
The main thing driving hesitance on getting vaccines from Trump voters is opposition to Dems. "Oh, you're going to encourage and possibly require vaccines for some activities? Well, then, no I'm not going to comply. I'm not getting one!" It's not about the actual science behind the vaccines. If Trump won the election, the only thing limiting our ability to get 80-90% of adults vaccinated by now would be an incompetent vaccine rollout program.
Masks worked for flu, cold, and other less contagious viruses. Covid was too contagious for regular masking to have any significant impact (unless N95).
It helps us understand why more people aren't getting a vaccination, despite ample supply and accessibility of vaccines. In any other developed country, I'd bet similar availability of vaccines would have yielded are far higher percentage of vaccinated people.
I think flu is more likely to be transmitted through surfaces, which actually makes masks less useful for that. I would attribute reduction in flu largely to people staying at home and not socializing as much. The more contagious something is through the air, anything you can do to reduce the amount of virus you are putting into the air or breathing in will help. Distancing obviously also helps, as it significantly reduces the concentration of any airborne viruses in the air you are breathing. If you are using cloth masks as an excuse to crowd together and breath in each other's faces, you're doing it wrong. Also, general masking guidelines become more important for viruses that can be transmitted asymptomatically, which is more likely to happen with the coronavirus than the flu.
Stop with your science. Same here with my workplace. I have seen plenty of adults wearing a mask with the nose exposed. I haven't seen a single kid wearing a mask incorrectly.
You should care if people are getting vaccinated. The more people that get vaccinated, and sooner, the better chance we will have to stop the pandemic and slow/prevent future variants. That is, *if* stopping the pandemic is important to you, or at least, more important than defending the political position reflected in the poll showing over 50% of trump voters do not intend to get vaccinated.
If you want to talk about things that people are tired of, it's getting preached at. I got vaxed, I can't help it if others choose not to. That's their choice, I made mine. You can scream and cry and get blue in the face all you want towards those that are not vaxed. I promise you it will change nothing.
