FINALLY! Some Ringer podcast talk about the Summer League! https://www.theringer.com/2021/8/10...s-of-this-years-rookie-class-in-summer-league
Wood also needs to improve his off ball positioning. Playing next to Olynyk who always seemed to be at the right place at the right time, it was evident how poor Wood was in terms of positioning and being at the right spots for the guards to feed him for easy buckets. When Wood scored it was always a difficult contested make.
They are both just such inefficient players regardless of their inflated stats. Beal led NBA in scoring but at 59% TS. Both Wall and Beal had their most productive seasons offensively but were net negatives when on the floor. And Beal shot 34% from 3 and Wall shot 31% from 3 as their respective team's primary scorers. Now think of them being 1st and 2nd options on same team. Further, Wall is below 80% from FT. Beal was 88% this past season but it was his best season at FT line, by far, a critical element for why he was able to lead NBA in scoring.
Any NBA team would would love to have 30 of their pts come at 59-60% ts. League average is 56%. So Beal is high volume and above average efficiency.
Is Beal really that bad? Efficiency looks ok. Just doesn’t create for others much and is a negative on defense ??
He isn't bad, he is an all star and can be the second best player on an elite team. He just doesn't create well for his teammates and he struggles some defensively. So his impact is more limited. He is ideal next to a point guard that creates REALLY well, like Chris Paul... because it covers his deficiencies.
"Empty" would imply low efficiency high volume scoring. He's nearly 4 percentage points higher than league average scoring efficiency. He's high volume, good efficiency. His scoring would raise almost every team's scoring efficiency.
He suffers from an efficiency stand point when his shot attempts and role increases.... his three point efficiency tanked when he was asked to score more. His defense all suffered..... and that is with him having very little playmaking responsibilities..... which is why he is light years below someone like Harden, James or Doncic that run the actual offense..... Beal is still good, but he isn't in THAT class.
Yes, he is a better high volume scorer than most of the NBA.... he just isn't in the class of superstars. He is still an all star and can drop 28-30 points a night.... he just isn't the best player on an elite team. He would do well next to someone that can play make and also cover his defensive woes.
I'm not denying he's not a superstar. I just don't think his production is "empty". Non-superstars can still be productive.
What do you think about someone like Kawhi or Durant archetype? I feel they have the same lack of playmaking but their scoring is so absurd that it offsets that to some degree. I still think the Harden's,Currys, Lebrons and Lukas are the perfect archetype for an alpha on a squad.
Context matters, you stuck your face into a discussion about players that can carry teams far into a post season. That you didnt understand this is par for course. Beal is not the alpha on any championship contending team.
Well your diction seemed like you are trying to defend a premise that Beal's production is empty. Because I agree with your premise that he isn't a superstar nor would be the best player on a championship team. He definitely can be a 1B or number 2 option.
