I feel badly that he'll basically be playing for free during his contract with us, but based on the salaries that have been paid out this summer I know he can more than make up for it if he becomes a productive player. Plus the salary cap looks to spike even further in the future which will inflate salaries even more.

Agreed, but let's not forget he has already been earning $3mill a year (or more)?

His overall contract is worth 11 million. How is he playing for free? The Rockets are paying .75 million of it which leave about 2.5 mill. He’s basically paying one seasons worth of salary to the Real Madrid franchise out of his pocket.

The last two years of his contract will be team options and should not be considered guaranteed, IMO. The first two years of his contract will approximately total $5M. I'm assuming he'll need to pay his buyout with post tax dollars and he is in the highest tax bracket. His buyout with Real Madrid is €3M which converted to dollars is $3.5M of which the Rockets can only contribute $750K. So his guaranteed salary is about $3.1M net of taxes and his buyout obligation is approximately $2.75M.

Yes, if he plays well enough to get his team options picked up he will profit. I am confident that he will play well enough to not only get his options picked up, but also to get a huge second contract. But if I were in his shoes I would not consider my contract worth $11M in the bank, nor would I consider the jump to the NBA risk free. This buyout is expensive to him no matter how you slice it.

Dont forget Nwaba, Theis, EGo, Khyri and now Justin Anderson.

    And Sengun is underrated defender.

Team is looking so much better defensively.

Only the first of his two years are guaranteed, the last two are team options. That's a bit strange.

Even if Usman is out of the league after his two guaranteed years(he won’t be) he can still sign contracts elsewhere and still be a millionaire. Stop with all the nonsense over his 2.5 million he owes Madrid. It’ll be fine with time regardless of how he plays for us.

Let's at least wait till he has a 12 block game in the summer league before we go maxing him out.

Hopefully there are no overweight, out of shape pf's with an overgrown sense of pride here in the SL!
Or maaaybe he can get 12 blocks on Cad......no, I'm not gonna go there! :D

I'm not sure, but he might be paying taxes to Spain as well.

For a team that puts a value on perimeter shooting, we sure do love signing guys who lack that skill set
