I know it’s summer league and nothing matters right now and all this and that. BUT I really want the win tonight and JG drop 30 with Sengun getting 20-10-5
I beg to disagree, every game matters and is a MUST WIN! dont get me that meaningless games bs TODAY is all we have, lose tomorrow if you must, but today all I won is WIN.
Pistons brass before tonight: Lets not overreact to tonight. It's a meaningless summer league game and Cade only cares about improving himself and the team. Rockets brass before tonight: Jalen wants to drop 50 on your head and force feed Cade a Killens steak.
Yup and that's why I'm more confident in Green's ability to be a superstar relative to Cade. Green has that "I'm going to ****ing destroy you" mentality.
Summer league is not the end all be all, but it still matters. I don't care what people say, but if a top pick doesn't perform well against fringe NBA player I would be worried. Yes, SL doesn't define a player but it sure does raise some red flags. Most super stars perform like a super star in SL. I can understand if shots don't fall because players have off nights, but if you can't blow past fringe NBA defenders that's troubling (cough cough Cade cough cough.) Anyways can't wait to see Jalen and Sengun play tonight. If Jalen has the mamba mentality like he claims, he will go out there tonight and prove he is the best player in the draft and a super star in the making.
It seems like Piston fans are trying to cope by saying Green is only a scorer and is the next JR Smith and Nick Young. Both Smith and Young were mid to late first round picks with no where near the potential of Green. They did not have the fluidity and explosiveness and always showed signs they were going to be inefficient scorers. Also they didn't have their heads screwed on right like Green. Not saying Green is the next Kobe or MJ but they came into this league as scorers with little playmaking ability for others. So just because someone is primarily a scorer coming into the league doesn't mean they are automatically the next JR Smith.
The 21 fta stands out. One of the reasons why I scoffed at the Kobe comps for Green, besides…I mean c’mon lol. But becoming a bigger more athletic Bradley Beal is no shame.
Kobe and MJ were not that tall. Green has similar height to both. What separates guys like MJ and Kobe from their peers is their work ethic and overall mentality. They were essentially psychopaths when it came to training. So what will determine whether Green is a generational first ballot hofer or merely a slightly better Jordan Clarkson is that work ethic. But he definitely has the tools and natural talent to be a generational scorer.
I hope Green guards Cade full time tonight. I need to see more of that two way potential. I personally prioritize Defense over Playmaking for Green’s development. Want him to carry less weight offensively than Harden while being above average to elite defensively.
I don't think the Summer League was nearly as built up during that era compared to today. NBA teams are sending more of their roster talent now a days to the summer League. Before in previous eras it was mostly just rookies and undrafted players who were bouncing around in other leagues outside the NBA. Most teams are now sending guys with multiple years of NBA experience.
