Uhhh... this wrong-headed take is embarrassing. Proves most guys are only filled with hot air and not knowledge.
See this is the problem when you make these declarative statements sight unseen, although tbh I made that mistake myself when I said both Young and Harden were busts back in the day. What I'm seeing now is people severely undestimated the competition in GLeague even if its common knowledge people there are grown ass college stars. If Luke Garza aka Naismith awardee didnt get drafted he'd end up in Gleague. Thats the type of competition Green went up against and that depressed his stats cuz jf he played in the weak ass NCAA league he prob be shooting 40% from 3 like Cade and scoring 25 ppg. The fact that Green became an above average player in that league just shows how good he really is, most rookies would end up with nos like his 2 teammates Isaac and Kuminga.
It’s about whether you raise the floor of those around you. Harden made Tucker a better player because he gave him opportunities to hit wide open shots and Harden delivered it to Tucker right in his preferred spot. The harder Tucker has to work for that shot, the more one dimensional he appears to be because while his defense is good, it’s not good enough for him to be an 0 for x player offensively and still be productive. You could say the same about a number of ex Rockets. That’s where stats meet “gravity” of excellent players. That cliche about great players who make the game easier for their teammates is true - the reality is Beal just isn’t THAT good. He’s “get them stats” good but not “let’s get our less competent offensive players fed” good…
Curious what would happen if there was someone with Jalen's talent who looked average in the G-League and was kept there for another year, would he absolutely demolish the league, or look slightly better? I am wondering how much of this is opportunity. I am glad Jalen was given the opportunity and it was not taken away when he faltered. I would have liked to see that issue forced a bit more with Josh, the reality is we will need to trade multiple shooting guards at some point (Garrison and KPJ?), it would be nice to see what we have so we do not make a mistake like what OKC did with Harden.
