Better hope Odorizzi finds his mechanics. The Rockies have won 4 in a row and the hitters might go quiet against Jon Gray
The dual-day-off thing is not unique. It's the same reason NBA coaches take players out with a minute or so left in a quarter/half. An extended rest is more valuable than two smaller rests - but it's hard to do without missing lots of gametime, so coaches take advantage when the opportunity arises. When you have a day off, if you can get an older player an extended rest, teams often do it. It's nothing unique to Dusty Baker or the Astros. We've seen this kind of stuff since 2017 where the Astros are way more interested in trying to manage the season as a whole, while fans want them to manage to try to win every single game.
Lol, spoken just like Dusty All this rest might help us if we make the playoffs, something everyone is taking for granted that is far from a sure thing Zero reason to rest Altuve today with two of the next four days off and us fighting for a playoff spot. Zero
Of course not, but the quad-off-day AAAA lineup is, and it's happened more than it should this season, and it's not fair to whoever the SP is that day.
The Astros' lineup with Yordan-Tucker-Correa-Brantley-Diaz-and-4-random-dudes is still a competitive lineup - we're just spoiled by having the deepest lineup in the league. At the end of the day, it scored 5 runs, which is about the team average.
Go back and see how many times you or others have said this same nonsense the last 4 years. The Astros - and every other team - is never going to operate this way, no matter how much fans think they should. It seems like every year, people act like it's the first time they've watched a baseball season. The Astros simply aren't going to treat every game as a "must win" in August. It's true with Dusty, it was true with Hinch, it will be true with next year's manager. They're having a bad week. Its happens to everyone.
Yeah! Hitting .400 and slugging .600 playing every day as a Mariner. Pretty exciting! Still, Graveman is exactly what we needed. He makes us a much better ball club.
Lol, you might be the one who needs to go back and look AJ never handled it like this. He would give multiple guys off on one day, a lot of times on a Sunday, instead of screwing with multiple games a week He also communicated with his players and considered the situation. He didn’t just say “the calendar says this dude is off today so by god he is off”. When we hit Friday next week we will have been off 3 days in 11, most teams aren’t giving their best players a rest day in this situation, Regardless if what pop says is right
Just playing crappy baseball right now. Thats all that needs to be said. Everyone needs to pick their game up.
No doubt and I’m very glad we got him Just wish we had moved prospects for him and not some of our very little mlb depth I know many people love the Tampa Bay way, and it is great for them with their 100 million payroll. We don’t have to live that way here though, we can afford to move a couple young prospects and will survive if they turn into mlb players down the road. This is the time to play for right now. Not sure Click understands that way of thinking
I don't watch most of the games - for the exact same reason the Astros don't play every game like it's a must-win. But I've had this same dumb argument year after year with people freaking out over every loss and hating every manager for not doing everything they can to win every single game at the expense of the long-term goals of the team. It's amazing the amount of angst over resting one guy with an August 0.300 OPS for one game. I'm sure that's going to cripple the team's chances of making the playoffs.
That is indeed a dumb argument to have on a daily basis. It also does not spare the Manager from criticism in how he handles the lineups and bullpen. Can't wait for Bregman to get back and blow everyone's mind when he (and Yuli/Correa/Brantley/Yordan/Altuve/Maldy) sit 2 games a week. I just hate it when he doesn't stagger them out. We have the DH, use it.
At the end of the day, it's impossible to know the actual long-term effects of a manager's decisions - does resting Altuve today make him better in September or October? Does not overusing the bullpen in June make them better in October? There's no way to ever know. All we can do is look at the season long results, and the Astros' have been damn impressive over the last many years of fans' complaininng. I don't care for Dusty and didn't want him hired, but his team played really well in the playoffs last year after struggling all season and he seemed to make every right move. People were raving about him last October. I'd think that would earn him some benefit of the doubt.
It's real damn easy to tell when he gets all funtime with the bullpen. And when he doesn't know how the challenge rules work. And when he sits on his ass and watches his players get cornholed by the HPU. And... And... I don't care too much about the lineups outside of what I said about resting multiple players on the same day.
Maton for Straw is looking worse and worse. The Astros feed also doesn’t tell you who’s actually batting. Don’t worry, though, they tell you who the pitcher is. Just a total lack of highly relevant information damn near every other teams feed provides.
I really don't get that trade because McCormick can be used as insurance if Straw gets injured. Now, the Stros better hope Big Mac doesn't get injured, or they will be looking for help.
