Morphing the Rockets into the Kings is definitely not the answer. Many teams perpetually grab lots of top talent that way every year and are not successful. The strategy just doesn't work most of the time. Morey kept us at the top of the league essentially without using the draft. The only guaranteed result from a strategy like that is years of misery for your fans.
I wouldn't let Wall anywhere near this team. Your vet presence is Gordon, Augustin, and Theis. 2 solid locker room guys. Wall is a cancer, as is House. Neither of those 2 should be let anywhere near the new nucleus of this team of Porter, Green, Wood, Tate, Martin, Sengun, and Garuba. I think Porter, Wood, Tate, and Martin got enough exposure to the TC last year.
The ironic part is it wasn’t wall who was the one caught at a strip club at 6 am in Miami, while one of his teammates was bloody
I’m comfortable in uncertainty. I don’t need a guarantee, I just need to know if it’s an option I prefer over other options. All things considered we are in a unique situation, we own the next 2 picks before OKC starts taking over for a few years. We’ll probably be too good for a nice lottery pick in 2023 after green and kpj develop more so this upcoming season is the best chance to get one. It just perfectly lines up with a timeline of building things. Around green/kpj (hopefully wood if he doesn’t get traded) and when OKC picks take over.
I'm not in any hurry to ship Wall for peanuts. I think he still has value, and the Rockets need to showcase him, and the best of Wall should come out.
I was told Gordon and Augustin are not vocal leaders, yes they are veterans but they do not talk they talk with their actions. Now, Theis is a vocal leader but he in new to the team and it will take time. I would keep Wall until his attitude change then i would trade him to to Clippers. But do we want Beverly as a leader to our new guys?
Harden feels guilty how he left Houston. He loves Houston he only left because he wanted a ring. I know Durant signed a multi contract but I cannot see all three of those players staying together for multi years.....I can see Harden and Kyrie Irving getting into it. Everybody nice now because they want a ring....but they are a odd couple.
I think it's unlikely, and probably the reason we all look at it as a guaranteed two more years. However, if he has a decent year and stays relatively healthy, but still sees his role diminishing, the stars could align for us. He might see it as a chance to get another contract before he has a setback (opt out and cash in before it all crashes down). It's something to consider and might give his supporters and detractors alike to root for his success this year.
Every time I see this thread title, I get a twinge of excitement. Could we be getting rid of the guy? Then I snap that it's the same old thread. It's a bummer. I'm sure Wall is a decent enough fellow. Heck, he's financially set for life, unless he's a complete and total idiot when it come's to money (wouldn't be the 1st to be, of course), but the guy is in the way. I want to see the young Rockets get all the minutes they can stand. I want them surrounded with solid vets happy to show them the ropes. We have some of those guys. I think we have a good coaching staff, and aside from the owner, a solid organization with a rebuilding plan that got jump started with this draft, big time. I don't want to watch Wall stealing minutes from the youngsters, trying to take over games, and he will. Shouldn't really get angry at him for doing it, but I probably will. Wall will be attempting to make himself valuable enough to get a contending team to take a chance on trading for him. Why on earth would he want to be spinning his wheels on a rebuilding team when he's just shy of 31, and in what should be his prime? Playing lots of minutes and producing will be an obvious way to do that, especially after seeing that Westbrook trade, in my opinion. It's exasperating.
I understand a lot of people want to move on from Wall. Heck, I want to move on from Wall. But at least we can take some solace in his personality. He's not a malcontent, the type of guy who's saying he wants to be bought out now or traded, or leaking stories to the press through his agent, or trying to force his way to a team. That seems to be what any player worth his salt is doing in the league, and Wall isn't. He's showing up to work, played back to backs even though he didn't have to, played through injury even when reports were saying knee issues were coming up, and has great rapport with the coaching staff and players.
Great guy who our young guys love (go check insta) and look up too. He's jut not a great basketball player and makes a ton of money. I'm not sure how you handle that other than limit his minutes and have him eat your cap.
Not sure if Wall could not throw lob or that he preferred to score it himself. For a guy who averages a significant amount of assists, his game is very selfish. But that could be the Silas empowered iso all the time version of John Wall. Wizards John Wall had no problem dishing it to his bigs and shooters.
Cancers are better described as an insidious malignancy. Wall is not some over the top monologing super villain. I do not believe Wall consciously believes his ball dominance is bad for the team.
I think its more about personnel than coaching. We had a bad team last year. Wall felt like he had to compensate and tried to do too much. His interviews about embracing Houston and trying to be the franchise player after harden left tell a lot about his mindset last year.
Wall was doing too much when Harden was still on the Rockets. And all advanced stats clearly showed that Wood was best player on team after Harden left. Let's not make up stories to support his selfish LOSING play, after the fact. Wall has NEVER been the best player even once during his entire Rockets tenure. Do not mistake highest paid for best, like Wall does.
