I guess Dusty’s thought process was probably that if he pinch hit Correa for Maldonado, they would have just walked him with first base open to get to Robel anyway. That further illustrates why Robel needs to be off of this team ASAP.
I’m at the point where I believe Click wanted Meyers and Dusty wanted Straw and Dusty is being defiant cause he knows he can’t be fired
It could be, but I’ll ask the same question I asked earlier without answer - which game did you want him to start and who should sit? We just wrapped a 5-game stretch against the best teams in the NL and multiple key bats are missing. None of Chas, Brantley, Tucker or Yordan can play IF and all are more proven hitters than Meyers in the MLB. And even Chas didn’t play much in the NL games. With Yuli, Bregman and sometimes Correa out, who should Meyers have replaced specifically? Tonight or tomorrow Jake should start assuming Carlos and Yuli come back. If he doesn’t, then I buy the animosity theory. Until then, I understand the moves.
It looked like Correa wasn't even in full uniform for the game. Looked like he had on a sweatshirt and not a jersey top.
My opinion, and likely Click's opinion, is that Meyers would do no worse than Straw... either defensively or at the plate. Straw was in the lineup almost every game despite his plate issues (and initial defensive issues). We'll never know if Dusty would have gone with the Tucker in CF configuration if Straw was still on the roster, but my guess is they would not have.
Intentionally handicapping your infield defense with a groundball pitcher on the mound is... less than ideal. Bring back Terry Collins or Brad Mills or heck even Cecil at this point.
Sooo… Oakland is 4 games back… Yankees are 8-2 in the past 10 games and are 1.5 back of the wild card. Can we get Bregman, defense and solid pitching back please??
There is no way they would fire dusty this year. Even of the Astros were in third place his job would be safe in my opinion. He's only under contract for this year though right? I'd be shocked if he's back
I know. It's wishful thinking. They extended him a year. That said, they can always make him a "team ambassador " next season
I don't think they extended him. My recollection is that they picked up this year's option last summer which just meant he wouldn't be one and done in Houston. He's not currently under contract for 2022.
