Phelps has personality IMO. he shows a lot of emotion and has charm.

In every interview I have seen from Sydney McLaughlin she shows none. She gives you nothing, lol.

But, she is pretty so she will be alright. She seems real shy; she always looks like she doesn't want to do any of the media she is doing.

She actually sounds ridiculously mature for her age to me. Considering she's something like 21 years of age, comparing how she acts with how the average NBA draftee or really anybody that age acts is a bit of a shock. lol. BTW, she did reveal once that she gets ready for races by eating packs of gummi bears, so maybe Haribo or Albanese should contact her. :D

Young people could do a lot worse than have people like McLaughlin and Gabby Thomas representing them. They're awesome. I'm still sad Gabby didn't get gold, though.

I'm just a fan of moments. I want these Olympic athletes to capitalize (monetarily) on the very few moments they have when everyone is watching.

It feels like Gabby Thomas has done more with just making the Olympics and getting the Bronze than Sydney has breaking a world record winning gold. The look on Sydney's face when she won was like it was a regular race, lol. Look at the dude from Norway. That guys reaction to winning gold, and breaking a world record, is going to be plastered everywhere.

Anyway, here is a video about how USA doesn't pay enough for winning in the Olympics. Now I see why that one Italian 100m guy ran for Italy when he was born in the USA; he is about to get 6 figures for his gold medal he is bringing to Italy, lol

I like how they show how much Singapore pays their medal winners. I've probably won as many medals as Singapore does most years. :D But yeah, I agree some of the athletes do deserve more from the country, but athletes not in the "big sports" not making money has been an issue for decades in the US. The ones that are elite at the sport and do win consistently do get endorsement money, though. Now if you're the elite at the underwater reverse 200m jog, you're probably screwed because nobody cares. It makes it even worse when so many athletes that win for other countries or do well train or play professionally here like De Grasse, many of the basketball players, etc. The sheer volume of athletes in this country also means there's more competition for those medals here so they don't need to be "encouraged" to step up because there's always somebody that's willing to take their place. Among the places where this causes a hit in talent for the US is the men's basketball team, but in other sports? The best still seem to show up because it's not like they've got some other avenue to make money.

If the world’s fastest human was from USA, he’d get same or more, don’t you think. Running for Italy is easier track (less nationals competition) to getting to the Olympics in that race, too.

but he probably ran for Italy bc he’s lived there his whole life, since 3 months old.

From my understanding all US Olympians get paid the same amount for a gold medal and the IOC gives the athlete money for a World Record. Maybe the USA Olympian could get more endorsements off that medal than someone from a smaller country, but it's all about personality along with being good like Usain Bolt IMO. I will be shocked if we hear from this Italian guy again. Even if you got the win, you are still relatively unknown unless you have a big personality

You're right though, being an Olympian in a small country with less athletes it's an easier road if you got the talent.

I didn't realize the Italian guy was born in the USA then left when he was a baby. I just heard he was born in the USA but chose to run for italy.

Another USA favorite upset in the men's 110m hurdles. Just a bad showing overall from the US in these Olympics.

The olympics are just one giant flex from the developed nations
I enjoy it and all but its not even fair lol

I mean most of these sports require gov funding that is just not there for most people around the world. Not uncommon to read stories of olympic athletes trying to gather some funding before the games because their govs arent covering costs.

That 100m relay result is tragic. Have the US men won an individual gold in running yet? I read a story that said the since the Olympics have started and in every Olympics the US has competed in, they have had at least one individual men's running gold. They hadn't had one up until the time of that article and Holloway was one of their last shots going into the final days, and well, he didn't get it. This Olympics has definitely seen some surprises.

ive seem some of the facilities (ot lack thereof) around a few underdeveloped asian countries. it's a miracle that they can even hang in there next to some of the other athletes with state of the art training facilities. ive met a local no.1 batminton breh and his struggle to just get to training was amazing

The backup Goal Keeper for the Women's Soccer team is comically bad. She's acting like she has never played the position.
