He will excite as much as he will disappoint. So will the rest of our roster with all that youth. I’ll always find space for a seven footer that hits 40% from deep even if just for 10 minutes a game.
I'm not disagreeing that it's possible Wall could be dealt for a quality asset a year from now. But I think it's extremely unlikely. Can you think of a single instance where one of the worst contracts in the league was dealt to a team where they didn't have to give up an asset in return or take back a different horrible contract or two in return? I can't. And who knows, maybe he surprises us all and plays himself into a positive asset. But if he's doing that, it likely means other young guys aren't getting the minutes they need to develop, which is my concern. The off chance that you can turn Wall into an asset isn't worth the delay in development you're going to have by having Wall eat a ton of minutes.
Lauri Markkanen is soft, no rebounding, no inside shooting just hanging out shooting 3s....Also, at 7 foot tall he is allergic to blocking shots inside
Don't really know if any of these guys will be positive assets so not sure it is even worth it to use the MLE. Basically have to think of Theis as our MLE signing this summer and it checks a lot of boxes. 1) Can help with defense and show other bigs on the team how to play defense in the league 2) should be a very tradeable contract as I believe he has one of the better value contracts in this free agency. Considering Kelly O and Nerlens Noel got more than Theis, who is a more consistent, less injury prone, productive player IMO.
If it gets to be too much watching him get torched, just go watch some old videos and remember the coach should protect him and let him stick threes in the other teams eye a la Sam Perkins or Matt Bullard. Markkanen in small doses against a second unit is a real problem properly used. But I get it. I am happy if we get him and I am happy if we stand pat. We got a lot of bodies on this team up front if our two international rookies are not stashed.
