The DSL club has gotten off to a 3-8 start, but IF Leosdany Molina has stood out through the first couple of weeks. Molina, 21, left Cuba in 2019 and signed with the Astros in June. He's been the primary SS and has also made a couple of starts at 3B, but he's really gotten off to a hot start to his professional career at the plate, slashing .407/.475/.594 (2 2B, 2 3B) with 8 RBI in 12 games. Sample size applies, but given his age, he should probably be moving on to the US at some point this season.
Great to hear about the guys on the rise. But I must say I was still holding out hope for Martes - but it doesn't seem he's gonna turn it around here (a pitcher without control, doesn't belong in the big leagues, and it seems they don't even belong in AAA for the matter of fact.)
Sucks. Get him healthy and ready for maybe the end of the season or definite winter ball somewhere so he can get those reps back.
Just got back from my first hooks game. They didn’t look very good at all. Julks and Hensley were actually the two guys that passed the eyeball test. Several players looked awful on defense: Gonzalez and Hensley had errors, Salazar looked generally bad, and Taylor’s arm from RF was very inaccurate. Gonzalez does look like his bat is too good for AA as he was making really hard contact. Him panning out as a AAAA DH wouldn’t surprise me at all. Endersby was throwing 94-95 to start the game but seemed to fade into the low 90s fairly early; he didn’t look bad, but didn’t look all that impressive either. Nothing notable on Lee or Perez.
Korey Lee was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the 9th. Maybe the manager just trusted Manea more? There wasn't a platoon advantage. Possible that I'm just reading in too much given what time of the year it is but I really don't want to trade Lee.
The FCL club beat the Marlins 2-1 and Cody Deason (3 IP, BB, 6 K), Yefri Carrillo (4 IP, 3 BB, 8 K), and Jeremy Molero (2 IP, ER, 2 BB, 3 K) combined to throw a no-hitter. The Marlins' one run came on a wild pitch from Molero. Carrillo has allowed six hits in 25 innings this season. Rainier Rivas drove in both of the Palm Beach Stros' runs with a triple and a single.
Kyle Gruller in the 2nd game of a doubleheader for Fayetteville: 4 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 8 K Misael Tamarez, following him out of the bullpen: 3 IP, 4 BB, 8 K
Ross Adolph (2-run) and Corey Julks (walk-off solo) hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the 9th to give Corpus a 5-4 win over Frisco.
Dear lord that announcer needs to work on his enthusiasm...even if it's the other team's guy. I've had meetings with CPAs that were more lively than that call.
