Putting a rookie with 0 MLB AB starting in August at a world series contender's most premium position....they must really really really like Jake Meyers.
Unless they like what they got back for Straw... or they thought benching Straw would cause more problems. I will say this.... this was a VERY arrogant move by the team, they are going into the post season with an unknown CFer and they don't appear to be worried at all... they are sticking their neck out and they are fearless.
Just weird that Click was tweeting out like he was gonna make a big move Maybe calling up Meyers is the big move
Only thing that makes sense is they had a deal in place for Buxton, but Twins pulled out after the Straw deal. Plan B is to call up Meyers.
Looks like the Astros thought, "Hey, this guy makes almost a million and Straw makes only about $600k. That means the pitcher is better AND we stay under the Luxury tax, right?" I'd say, why stop there. We still have almost $600k left to spend. Might as well push it to the limit, No?
You think it was Meyers all along? maton has looked solid Last 14 innings. 2.44 era. Could be a sleeper pick but putting a rookie in center is ballsy
Considering how confident they must be in Meyers to deal away Straw for a middle reliever, the call up of Jake makes me almost as excited as if we would have traded away a haul for half a season of Kris Bryant. Almost.
You know what, lets get it meyers, you the real Byron Buxton, LETS GOOO. Extremely agressive move, the pressure on this kid to be good right away is going to be insane.
0 chance. They could agree to a deal for buxton then send straw spontaneously. They do have more than 1 phone line working.
So you trade away your every day center fielder and your replacement is a minor leaguer with no big league at bats? can someone explain how this works out for a team trying to win a World Series?
I agree with all of that... but it could also have been a plan B. The Bryce Harper deal was apparently completely agreed to back in 2018... and they backed out literally right before sending out announcements.
