Clutch SO by Alvarez there... that's what you need from your cleanup hitter in the 9th. Let's see if Carlos can follow suit.
Dusty can't figure out when to pull pitchers and when to pitch pitchers. I don't see the reason for Pressley to pitch Sunday when you have the Mariners in the next series. Sort of like padding stats for Pressley instead of padding lead against the Mariners.
It's remarkable really - we've been struggling at the plate for a good while now. I mean some really terrible offensive struggles. We finally start a game en fuego, put up 8 runs on the road against a team that can't hit to save it's life, and our pitching can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to protect the lead. F*** this bullpen. And goddamnit go get a bonafide ace.
Taylor, Stanek, Javier acceptable. Abreu fine in short stints with appropriate rest. Other than Stanek 8th, Pressly 9th, Dusty has not figured out any sort of consistent role/usage for anybody else. That really is up there as a primary responsibility of the manager. He’s trying something different nearly every game… still experimenting. They’ve gotten away with it partly because of fewer close games and simply because how great Pressly has been. Now he’ll try and figure out how to work in Baez/James… but not fair to them that they have to come in and be dominant after not pitching all year. These are the situations that leads to teams overpaying for bullpen help.
Sunday was a saving situation. We were leading 3-1 going into the 9th. Saturday was when he came in with 4-0 lead and gave up a solo homer.
Should've just left Javier in Sunday with the way he was pitching knowing you have a huge series starting up the next day.
Javier could/should have been given the 9th yesterday. But as it is, Dusty was likely going to use Pressly tonight for the 3rd game in a row… just wasn’t going to ask him to get 4 outs.
Sounds good but no way Pressly is going 4 outs in a game in July after having already pitched 2 days in a row.
