Maybe hype/stock? I agree with you though; if you feel like you're the best player in the draft you should at least work out for the team with the #1 pick. It's not like Detroit has a franchise big man on the roster right now; Mobley could make a convincing argument that he fits in better with Detroit's roster with a good showing. But maybe it's another example of the young kids declaring they are someone but don't really want to put in the work to make it a reality.

How can you be mild mannered and shy, yet claim to be a "generational talent" and all that stuff? Tim Duncan NEVER claimed to be more than a "good" basketball player supremely humble and not needing to convince anyone.

I know he's just "playing the marketing game" so to speak and dialing up that "coach speak" to 10, but its the dumbest thing you can do. Claim to be some savant, but not want to show anyone. Its like Brendan from Step Brothers who had an angelic voice, but was to shy to sing in public. Or something like that! LOL

The Rockets wanted to use their special Camera, to detect speed, etc and use data on Evan Mobley and Jalen Suggs apparently the Agents didn't want Mobley and Suggs waste their time doing data for the Rockets.

Rafael Stone next year need to keep quiet about this, the NBA always want to punish about anything Camera or Data related.

This smells like Ryan Leaf's gambit where he purposely missed his combine meeting/interview with the Colts in order to piss off their coach and ensure they would pass on him so he could go to San Diego instead.

Maybe if he does go to Cleveland, then Cleveland will be nice to the Rockets again and trade them Sexton cheap.

Agreed. I am inclined to think that all the "I am the best player" declaration is just lip service. Either he doesn't really believe it or doesn't want to work for it.

I love that green is going all out to be picked by DET unlike Mobley….

If we end up with Green at 2 - I’m reminding him every day that he isn’t better than Cade…

grow that chip! He opens his locker and sees a pic of Cade holding up that number one pick Detroit jersey

let the motivational tactics begin day one

@roslolian "liked" your suggestion of drafting Barnes, a player that Rockets have NOT worked out.

But according to his logic, teams should NEVER draft a player they have not worked out citing red flag examples of red flags that actually did not exist pre-draft.

Rockets should pick the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE.

    Period.

Whether they worked them out or not. Like many NBA teams have done in the past.

If Cade slips to #2 should we not draft him because he refused to work out for Rockets?

Of course not, that reasoning would be beyond stupid.

fwiw: his dad isn’t an average BBall parent. He’s a fiba player, longtime AAU coach and USC gave him an asst coach position when his sons were in High School ... and

... after a position was made vacant due to a firing from FBI investigation of USC

Mobley, an AAU coach for the past 11 years, will fill the void left by Tony Bland, who was fired in January in the wake of his September arrest in connection to the FBI investigation centered on bribery within college basketball.

So he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't?

    Pick a side.

Either you want them to be confident (which you've posted over and over that you do) or you want them to be humble.

    Interesting AF.

Eric Mobley is very level headed, thoughtful and intelligent from my few conversations with him.

Why is he trying to protect his son this way I wonder.

It makes no sense to me at all. Like, lets say the Mobley camp might feel they are behind Green in the running, wouldn't Mobley WANT to do a workout with the hopes to change the Rockets mind? From a competitive spirt angle, you would think Mobley would want to bet on himself. He might feel that way, I don't know, but don't know why his dad is holding him back if this is the case.

Look Barnes doesn't expect to go that high. There is a clear difference between him and Green, and Mobley. I'm not including Suggs here, since he has always been a distant prospect.

I read about that but it's still weird to consider Cleveland as your end all, be all if your son has potential (even if it's slim) to be the #1 pick. I'm sure he looked at Houston and said "well they already have Wood so we don't want that" and I guess that would be a reason to not work out for Houston but if your son is as good as you (and many others) think he is, what's wrong with some competition?

The Rockets have been on a downward trend since 2018 in terms of stability and success but nothing about Cleveland screams out "Cavs are a lot closer to contention than Houston".

Then all of the reports and news about it definitely being to get Cade must be mis-represented
