GSW rates Mobley over Wiseman? For good reason. Mobley is so consistently efficient. Mobley is an excellent scorer both on and off the ball for a true seven-footer, yet sees annoyingly few shot attempts. Despite these issues, he’s putting up a clean 17 points per game on only ten field goal attempts. He does very well at getting to the line and converting despite not being close to filling out his immense frame. He has a good feel for the game offensively and can space the floor as well. Not only can he shoot, but there’s also reason to believe Mobley can be a movement and set shooter as a center; a terrifying thought. https://bluemanhoop.com/2021/07/23/nba-draft-evan-mobley-fit-golden-state-warriors/2/ Most bigs defending in space are looking to get out of that situation ASAP. Not Evan Mobley. He attacks everyone in sight and in a remarkably controlled manner. There’s a chance he could match Bam as a perimeter defending big and be even more impactful as a rim protector. Few players have the ability to block three shots per game and consistently stay out of foul trouble. There’s a real scenario where Mobley is a true defensive unicorn as a center at the next level if his work ethic and physical development are there. The ultimate reason I’m sold on Mobley as worthy of a top pick is that he profiles as a 4.5 type player. He can play as both a center or power forward on both ends of the floor which is a unique skill for a potential franchise big. Two of my favorite frontcourt pairings in the league follow this model, in Milwaukee and Indiana. Myles Turner and Brook Lopez are true defensive anchors in the paint who can space the floor well enough to play the 4 offensively. Their partners, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Domantas Sabonis are best utilized as centers on offense, and their strengths in space make them better when guarding power forwards. There’s a chance Mobley could comfortably fill either of those roles at a high level. Very few 7 footers could comfortably pair with any frontcourt partner but I think Mobley fits in that category. Mobley also has the requisite passing and self-creation skills to excel in the role of a big in Kerr’s offense. He can legitimately attack out of the triple threat on the perimeter, combined with high-post work and a good screen game.
Question wasn't dead or alive. I thought that was a strange answer when I first saw it. He seems very uncomfortable doing these things and it's like he is trying to remember his lines. That's fine, he's not trying to be a motivational speaker. I just can see why he has mostly limited these kind of PR things so far. I would have loved a film session with Mike Schmitz.
Tim Duncan...exactly. I was originally thinking an Olajuwan that could also guard Durant, but Tim Duncan is who he really reminds me. If Tim Duncan there who do we pick? Green or Duncan?
I'm calling it now, if we draft Green we're going to be another Portland Trailblazers at best. This team needs defensive superstars desperately but fans these days are hypnotized by offensive highlights.
I'd appreciate your risk-averse nature as my financial advisor As my Rockets GM in this exact scenario ... I need more of a visionary While we're asking around ... how many you think are regretting passing on Giannis the unicorn bc he was risky? 1 CLE Anthony Bennett UNLV 2 ORL Victor Oladipo Indiana 3 WAS Otto Porter Georgetown 4 CHA Cody Zeller Indiana 5 PHO Alex Len Maryland 6 NOH Nerlens Noel Kentucky 7 SAC Ben McLemore Kansas 8 DET Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Georgia 9 MIN Trey Burke Michigan 10 POR CJ McCollum Lehigh 11 PHI Michael Carter-Williams Syracuse 12 OKC Steven Adams Pitt 13 DAL Kelly Olynyk Gonzaga 14 UTA Shabazz Muhammad UCLA
Kevin Porter + Jalen Green = Steve Francis + Cuttino Mobley No defense and they will freeze out teammates make sure the 2 of them get their numbers. They need a defender and shooter to pair with Porter and rim protection to cover up the lapses by the guards... People think drafting by need is dumb on a rebuild. When you ignore need you're hindering the pieces you already have. Mobley makes Porter a better player because he helps hide Porter's current weakness.
Duncan: - was the last classic back to the basket, post-up big to become a superstar - had a thick, muscular build with only average athleticism laterally and vertically - his entire game on both ends extended out to 16ft from the rim, with virtually zero 3pt shooting or perimeter DEF chops From a scouting standpoint they are closer to opposites as big prospects than they are comps
There's been only 1 Giannis so far right? If you consider Giannis Lebron's successor, it took 8 years for Lebron's replacement to arrive. There's 60 picks every year so that's a total 460 players who weren't Giannis. What makes you think the unicorn here isnt Kai Jones, JT Thor, Usman Garuba, EJ Onu, or even Scottie Barnes? We dont really know so pointing to one outlier out of hundreds of prospects isnt really a smart thing to do. Personally speaking if I couldnt make any trades I'd rather pick Scottie Barnes over Mobley. Barnes for sure would translate to the NBA, Mobley so many things need to click first. Giannis never looked like a center, he was a forward from day 1. If you look at the top players in the NBA, they are all forwards too. The risk is pretty high if Mobley builds muscle he loses his mobility and he becomes more injury prone. We've seen that happen so many times latest is Kristaps Porzingis.
Mobley isnt gonna be protecting the rim day 1 lol. He is too skinny and weak to do any real protecting until a couple years later. That listed posted had Zion and Kevin Love as top DPM in college how much defense have those 2 done when they went to the NBA?
How d hell is Mobley like Duncan? Duncan was the classic low post big Mobley plays face up like Bosh smh.
Agree, but could Mobley be a Duncanese presence for us? What I mean is that while Timmy was a fantastic 2-way player, he was also the stabilizer and the heart of that SAS team for years. Intangibles are such an underrated part of scouting and Mobley's demeanor and background (coach's son and big brother to practice against) are also interesting to me. These are the nuanced parts of evaluations that I think get overlooked or at least under appreciated.
