Isn’t this the first of two parts based on the first Dune book?

Have you watched his cliff note video of each of the books. After watching them, I missed so much of what was going on.

I know a little bit about the world building...... Just started the first book recently and I'm really loving the political intrigue as I'm probably a little more than a third through.

I really enjoyed his work on the Hyperion Cantos and Foundation breakdowns.

I thought the trailer looked absolutely incredible. What cinematography! And what musical score!

    Ready to see this movie!

Agreed, definitely a great channel to check out if you like this kind of thing. As mentioned, his breakdowns of each Dune book (and various concepts/questions) are pretty great. Hopefully WB will lay off his channel (and others) because he does more to get me excited about the IP than any of their marketing.

I'd heard or read that this would be two parts but I guess they're hedging their bets for a single 2.5-hr film.

Still find these things about the book incredible (and added Herbert's comments through literature about politics):

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Herbert

The Dune saga, set in the distant future, and taking place over millennia, explores complex themes, such as the long-term survival of the human species, human evolution, planetary science and ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics, economics and power in a future where humanity has long since developed interstellar travel and settled many thousands of worlds. Dune is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time,[2] and the whole series is widely considered to be among the classics of the genre.

[Dune was] rejected by nearly twenty book publishers. One editor prophetically wrote, "I might be making the mistake of the decade, but ...".[12]

....................All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted.

    — Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune[20]:59

The trailer doesn't seem to indicate a two-part film, unless they're digging into the 2nd Dune book (which I doubt).

    I could be wrong.

Dune (titled onscreen as Dune: Part One[3]) is an upcoming American epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. It is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book.

Wrong about what? It's very explicit it's a two part series covering only Dune.

The remainder will be covered under a series with a much lower budget.

Watch the founder series on Apple TV starting in late Sept. If you like that, you might like anything that follows after Dune. Dune has been very difficult to make in theater. The rest of the series would be much much harder to make, like The Founder Series.

From early reviews, it's a two parter.

Yes its always been a two part series. The big question has always been if the 2nd part will get funded. Villeneuve indicated the early reception has been fantastic and the 2nd part has been 'preapproved'.

All the early reviews suggest if you want the true villeneuve/Dune experience, it must be watched on an IMAX.

I don't think the 2nd part has been greenlit yet. WB is waiting for the box office results of part 1 before committing.
