It's not cherry picking, recent G league history is full of absolute scrubs dominating the league. The ONLY reason the G league is being hyped up is as an effort to prop up one very specific prospect, it's propaganda his camp has been putting out for quite some time. The "played against grown ass men" BS is just parroting propaganda from Green's agent. Even in the "evolved" G league, Green was out-played by outright scrubs.....but we want to ignore that because apparently he's the next Kobe or something. Look, the Rockets are going to draft him for business reasons, so I hope I'm wrong about the kid, but I just don't see anything but flash and hype.
What matters is the development. There are guys in the nba who with more touches can do well there, it stil doesn't mean its a worse pipeline for college. Remember its not even how they produce, its practice daily, its being around nba coaches, nba wisdom, knowledge..heck these guys may end up skipping a lot of the rookie hold ups with all that knowledge. Almost all rookies, talk about their vet to show them their way. Green has been aroudn nba players and staff for an entire year. he is more mentally prepared for the mentality, for the grind, for pace and physicality than collegeguys. Propoganda from green's agent? The college route is a scam. They don't goto class, they get paid inadvertantly, they have limited time to play and train, they just sit ther and make milliosn for their college and leave. I mean it is a massive facctor that the yhave limits to their training access, worse competition, easier scheduling, totally different hs like playing style with zones vs the nba. i could see you saying gleague hasn't reached par yet, but to say college is a better route?> thats where you're going to lose a lot of people. If gleague is full of scrubs, those gleagues woould dominate college eailsy and usually did, most gleaguers were stars in college or good players. This is a level up from college no matter how you spin it. In the end none of us know bc the nba allows more individual freedom in your game than any other sport, personality matters, influence matters, how we develop and surround him matters...so many things in the air. I'm a believe in this method and I find it a much better improvement than college, that doesn't mean I'm down on Cade or mobley at all, i just like this development pipeline, but its new. In any case I'm very very happy in our place at no 2
I am not saying godfather deal like like 6 first rounders but an extra first this year and maybe one next seems like great value to move one spot. Rumors were that Detroit was asking for much more to move down to 2.
The G league was 15 games of pick up caliber basketball. Thinking that more development happens there than in college is.....interesting. From a competitive standpoint, the top of college basketball is superior to the G league. You could take any random G league team and put them in the NCAA tournament and a college team would still win it every time. I don't like that we're wasting our #2 pick, but it's still better than picking at 18.
Sounds like just the kind of excuse one would want you to make for them if they underperformed in the G league... The next Kobe can't be expected to perform well because they didn't get to play in Summer League and go to training camp. Odd, but I guess you have to go with something. It's even more odd when the same apologists are trying to claim that the G league would have prepared him better than going the route now being claimed to be an unfair advantage.
He did perform well tho…….his g league numbers are on par with Cades college numbers. What are you talking about
You have to compare them to the league they played in. College games are slower paced, shorter, and defense is played. In the G league, they are longer games, faster paced, and no defense is played whatsoever. That inflates scoring numbers. Scoring fewer than 20 points per game typically translates to fewer than 10 points per game in the NBA. The college to NBA translation is different. 17 points per game in the G league is a mediocre showing for someone that is allegedly an NBA talent. A 19 year old Hartenstein was putting up 18/13 per 36 in the G league. Then 21/16 per 36 as a 20 year old. When he finally got to the NBA as a 20 year old, that domination of the G league translated to 9/8 per 36 if you round up. This is just one example, but there are hundreds more. Dominating the G league is SUPER easy for any fringe NBA caliber player.
FWIW Carter has nearly a 7 ft wingspan and Green's is lackluster at 6'7". The wingspan issue does worry me a bit with Green, but it's not major as his overall poor defensive fundamentals.
I don't know why the Cavs would do that unless it's Green they actually want. If not they should just stay where they are. If I'm the Cavs I would rather trade with TOR to pick up an asset and then pick Suggs.
Kobe and Jordan weren't Kobe and Jordan at his age. Anyone who claims to know what Green will be in his prime is just guessing just like you are.
This logic is so flawed. For one, college doesn’t play better defense, they just get to guard less skilled players. Don’t equate bad offense to good defense. It’s like the argument people make when they say college plays more defense than the pros. No they don’t. It’s much easier to guard someone will be working at rent a car enterprise in 2 years than pros. 2. G league doesn’t have per 100 possessions stats it looks like so until we can see that, the faster pace argument is null 3. Cade had a much higher usage rate so even if g league does have more possessions, a higher usage rate can make up that gap
I agree with BTG on this one. I’ll leave it up to Stone to evaluate the prospects, but acting like the G league is something special is ignorant. It might be some day, but it is not right now. The league uses it to help individuals hone certain skills. Other than that, it not really a competitive league.
You're right about the Toronto part. My assumption is that they might get desperate for Mobley since he's better than Suggs. Green is certainly an option for them, but he isn't working out for them.
