Maybe not. And maybe theyre being smarter about their cap space. But again. If the well is dry - which its looking like it is - and the Knicks want to look at building on the momentum they had last year, Wall is a clear upgrade and one of the few playoff teams (or hopeful play off teams) that isnt already set at point guard. Im in no way saying Wall would be their first choice. But if it comes down to the wire and they whiff on Lonzo or Lowry. Wall becomes an option. About the assets theyre giving up.. really.. Knox is completely out of their rotation and its an early 2nd round pick where they have 2 in the late 1st round. Knox was only really included so they could shed what salary they have to give up. A non rotational forward and an early 2nd round pick for a bloated contract on a former All Star that could genuinely help their team? Its not that crazy IMO. Its a huge risk moneywise, sure. But the type of risks you take to be a better team. If teams want more assets for Walls contract. Then we keep him. No FA are coming here anytime soon. Worst case is in his last year. We waive him. Edit: to add a condescending "Buddy" .. but just here, not in the body of my reply. I'm not that much of a dick.
Wall + 2 for Love + Prince + 3? Cavs take Mobley and get space in the frontcourt for him. Rockets take Green and save $10m a year after next season. I expect that #24 or a future pick might be needed to sweeten the deal or they'd just sit and take Mobley. Not saying I like the trade, but really want out of Wall's deal.
If I'm Stone, I offer the Cavs the following in trade for their #3 this year: 2021 #23 2021 #24 2022 - Round 1 (via Detroit) 2020 - Round 1 (via Milwaukee) That's 4 FRPs going to Cleveland, though the two next year aren't realistically great picks. That still leaves us with our own FRP next year. Then I draft both Green and Mobley and get drunk. If the Cavs balk, throw in whatever combo of the Wood/EG/House/etc. platter that makes them bite. Take back Love or some other garbage contracts if need be. That gives us a starting 5 of: Green KPJ Tate Martin Mobley Add seasoning and remove from oven for 2025-2028 titles.
We arent gettimg #3 for 4 mid to late 1sts.I know the MIL pick is unprotected. Needs to be at least one big time asset. #24+Brooklyn 2024 pick+ Brooklyn 2026 pick+ Detroit pick probably doesnt even do it.
Cavs trade Sexton to the Knicks for Toppin and picks 19, 32 and 58 and a future first. Cavs keep Toppin but send those picks along with #3 to Houston for #2 and they take Green. Houston takes Mobley at #3 and trades EG+19 to the Pacers for #13 (Jalen Johnson). At picks 23 & 24 the Rockets take guards (McBride and Christopher). In the second round the Rockets choose Grimes and Kessler as 3&D role players.
2022 Houston FRP (unprotected)+PIstons pick+Was Pick+Bucks picks to Orlando for #5 and #8. I don't know if it s enough, but Orlando taks away 3 mid first and the chance to move higher than #5 or #8 this year and get a big time pick next year. #2 Mobley #5 Suggs (I think Toronto takes Barnes or Green) #8 Segun Wood/Sengun Mobley/KMJ Tate/Nwaba KPJ/Gordon Suggs/Wall/Thomas
