He indicates Scherzer would only accept a trade if it came with an extension. Very interesting and I think it’s a move that makes a lot of sense for the Astros. But I haven’t seen any indication that the Nats are selling. Scherzer probably only has ~$15M in surplus value, which would mean something like a package of Abreu, Nova, and Dubin would be close to fair value. No idea if Washington would agree to something like that and no idea what Scherzer would be looking for in an extension, although to me if it’s limited to 2-3 years it’s hard for it to be a terrible deal regardless of the AAV. I still think a trade for Urquidy or Garcia with Washington sending back a prospect along with Scherzer would be a better deal for both sides.
“When I get a hold of the son of a b**** who leaked this, I'm gonna tear his eyeballs out and I'm gonna suck his ****ing skull.” — Maybe James Click. Astros front office doesn’t leak to leak. If they got a deal brewing, lips sealed.
Interesting, if a deal is reached, let's keep the Nats owner out of it. Don't want him vetoing the trade like the Harper trade.
Maybe Click is looking at pairing JV and Max into the sunset for a reunion...what a top of the rotation that would be...risky, sure...but oh man.
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2021-trade-value-41-to-50/ Luis Garcia clocks in as the 48th in trade value per FanGraphs. Basically, they think he's got a chance to be great for a very long time. They also think there is a chance he regresses. 48th spot is the compromise.
I sure wish the heightened scoring for most teams would find Houston. Looking at just yesterdays scores, The Nationals scored 18 runs, Red Sox 13, Mets 15, Reds 11, Tigers 14.
While it still shouldn't have made a difference, what that video didn't show is him go sprawling on the ground to avoid the throw home.
