few if any I had someone throw "Kobe was all defensive team 9 years!!!!" Yeah, not out of highschool. If he was that good at age 18, he would have gotten more than 16 minutes a game while playing in 71 games; (starting in six)
Exactly. They are both projects so I doubt they will make instant impact on the floor esp Mobley as he seems too thin to bang inside right now. Maybe they can put up stats if given enough PT but I would surprised if they end up better than average starter level.
I've been watching the NBA for quite a long time so I am starting to forget things from when I was younger. Also the Rockets have not had many high draft picks at all which has not given me many incentives to look into players that are highly ranked. But... there have not been many dynamic guards that at all from memory that were said to have great defense and score great and create great for others and very athletic. In my opinion from the little, I have seen compared to the teams actually scouting these players is Cunningham does all or most of things very good whereas Green is great at some of those things and above average at others.
The players are being drafted not by what their max production is today but on what they project to be in their first NBA contract as 1st round picks (4 to 5 yrs). When I compare Green to Kobe/MJ, it's the body of work during their careers that I forsee....first 4 to 5 years as a Rocket. Some people want to compare the finished product of MJ/Kobe vs 19 year old Jalen Green. One (not you personally) needs to compare 19 year old Kobe/MJ to 19 year old Jalen Green. Wingspan, hands, height are superficial when eras are different and body sizes are averaging less recently for SG's.
Yeah, Kobe struggled as an 18 year old high school player and took a few years to develop, but the potential was always there of course. Most importantly was his mindset and insane work ethic to improve like his idol Jordan. Here's Kobe as a teenager at 18 and 19 years old. If we pick him, let Green put in work and develop. Kobe has the greatest compliment you can give a player or a person for that matter imo, he fully maximized his potential. Why? Kobe is one of the best of all time and since him there has never been another... What about Green screams Kobe other than his position? Every year there is a guard with similar game and height and guess what we haven't seen since Kobe entered the league? another Kobe type talent at the position...
Jalen Green versus Evan Mobley and Jalen Suggs is the debate going on behind the scenes in Houston. League sources say Green has the edge for the Rockets, given the team's need for more creation and scoring, and the high likelihood that his quickness, explosion, one-on-one game and shot-making will translate. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...ock-draft-2-round-predictions-and-latest-buzz
jalen's game is way more MJ than Kobe imo.. just looking at the rookie kobe highlights, green makes kobe look like an average athlete. that being said kobe's footwork and fluidity is on another level even as a rook.
Yeah, that was me. And you're right. It took Kobe until he was 21 to make all defense 1st team. If you look at Defensive +/-, Kobe was a league average defender as an 18 year old rook out of HS. You previously argued that Green was as good as Kobe which is why I mentioned Kobe's defensive accomplishments. Are you saying that Green is as good a defender at 19 as Kobe?
Some reporter talks to Booker and makes a Kobe comparison. Of course he deflects that. He can't even say, "Well, the similarities in our game, blah blah blah" even as a hypothetical, because then the lazy media elsewhere would run with, "Booker compares himself to Kobe! After making it to the Finals once!" And even lazier fans who don't check the context: "Such a punk! An *******!"
It seems like the Rockets are disappointed to an extent with all of them. I hope they will be able to extract another 1st round pick and a second round pick from Cleveland and their 3rd pick. Cleveland will probably take Mobley after his workout, since Green isn't working out for them.
