All these worries about the offensive end... where Mobley is likely to far surpass expectations.....C'mon. Let's talk about how the League has never seen a player like Spiderman on the defensive end. HIs agility/ability to be a defensive force inside/out...a leader/anchor spinning an impenetrable web. This is a generational player, built for this age... who gives us the potential to have one of the greatest defenses of All Time if we play our cards right. He's the defensive answer to today's NBA. If we don't take him, we will rue the day.
The Rockets want slam dunk contest victories, not actual victories. They'll have a chance to draft a top 5 pick again next year, they want the cash cow with the rabid fanbase first. You lock down the Jeremy Lin type to make the team money and fill the seats, then you look to get the James Harden type to try and actually win games. It's a business first.
Don't really get this post. Aside from Tate, there's no one on this team that you'd point to and say "wow, this dude could be all-defense someday." And don't be so quick to forget - 3x DPoY Gobert, who Mobley should probably mirror his defense after, got burned by some dude named Terance Mann. All because Gobert had to go to the perimeter.
It's the number two pick dude. The Bucks have elite TEAM DEFENSE. An offensive centerpiece is always more important because you can still build an elite defense with great coaching schemes and discipline with good role players. The 2018 Rockets is the embodiment of that. The team was headed by a offensive only superstar and still was an elite defense. Again, it's the number two pick. We can worry about defensive role players in the late first round and pray Silas can instill some defensive fundamentals to the team.
If all you think Green can do is dunk, you are obviously biased. At 18 years of age he shot 37% from the NBA three point line against professionals. And most of those attempts were contested pull ups.
We are rebuilding and have time to acquire what we need. It needs to be a balance of both. Evan Mobley's defensive potential extends far beyond Gobert (as good as he is), who isn't a perimeter defender. Mobley IS.
Then you'd win that ship more easily if that offensive superstar could defend on a very high level as well, not just in the post.
And how may consecutive years did this team make the playoffs with a offensive only superstar? 1. We don't have any clue how his defensive ability will be when he has a few years in the league. He's 19 for crying out loud. 2. A team can have elite defense even if it's best player is an offense only superstar. We literally saw it with our own team.
We didn't lose because of poor defense. Look at the 2018 wcf stats. Both teams offenses suffered heavily. It was a iso slug fest for most of the series. Most of our postseason exits can be summed up with "tired legs jacking up a lot of threes during crunch time and an offensive superstar who stands around letting defenses take him out of the play during crunch time".
we're years away from being a title winning team. we need to build with the best talent, offensive talent and then go from there. there is no reason jalen can't be a good defender with proper coaching.
You guys talking about Jalen...not to take anything away from him.....I expect him to have a good career. But Evan is the rarer gem.
The fact that you had to lie twice in this response says it all. He shot 36% in a tiny sample of 15 games where he was streaky as hell at 19 against scrubs..... the same percentage Kanyon Martin jr shot in the NBA at 20. Green is a flashy highlights machine.... just like KMJ, but no one was talking about taking him 2nd overall. The Linesque hype machine has people wanting to give up their life's savings for fool's gold.
People don't understand that building elite defense isn't about drafting a defensive stud high in the first round. It's about having quality role players and great team communication. That is what makes teams good defensive teams. When it comes to a number two overall pick, always value offensive talent ceiling over defensive talent ceiling.
i threw it out in another thread... but I was told a few years back... "Defense doesnt really matter in todays NBA - we just need the firepower to outscore GSW!" oh, and that size no longer matters - the 'big man' is goin the way of the dinosaur in today's NBA... didja see Giannis got finals MVP...? yep... the great takes keep rolling on CF... lol
36.5% is rounding up to 37. So both of us are wrong, you are more wrong due to standards in rounding. KMJ was a spot up shooter. His only shots he took from 3 were open looks. Green also took a HIGH volume of 3 pt shots per game at 6 per game and most of them were difficult attempts renting ranging pull up threes to step backs with most of them contested. I don't think anyone in the top 4 is fool's gold. You have an irrational hatred for Green. I'd be happy if we got Mobley btw also. I just prefer Green. You have some angst towards him for some reason.
Mobley should be able to rim protect as well as Gobert, but be 10x more capable to defend the perimeter than Rudy. He just won't be able to play post defense well until he adds muscle.
Let's make one thing clear. The Suns were a subpar Finals team. CP3 is an all time great but he's no where near his prime days with Hornets and Clippers. Booker is a all-nba third team level type player. So the Bucks winning isn't some sign that "big men rule the NBA".
