https://thispodcastwillkillyou.com/2021/02/23/episode-67-hpv-my-wart-be-with-you/ This particular podcast episode was what really changed my perspective on vaccination. Not that I was ever particularly anti-vaxx at any point in my life, but this podcast really highlighted what an enormous medical advancement it is to have vaccination even be a readily available technology for the few diseases we know it's effective against. The whole idea that the HPV vaccination almost entirely eliminates the chances of developing cervical cancer is absolutely amazing to me. It's a bonafide preventative cancer cure that younger generations going forward will be able to worry less about when they're sexually active with new partners. That's the thing about cancerous HPV. You could be a carrier without exhibiting any symptoms for years and it may take upwards of 10 years before a person who contracts HPV develops cancerous symptoms. It's startling to me to think that one night stands in college years ago could have unintended consequences like causing past partners to get a hysterectomy because we fooled around once in a moment of passion. I mean condoms don't fully protect against contracting or spreading HPV. And I'll never be the wiser just like a lot of people who hook up on dating apps for quick flings nowadays won't be any more aware that their actions could come back to harm them or people they at least momentarily care about because of perfectly normal behavior like having sex, until years later when it's already too late. Like imagine for a second meeting your wife after having dozens of past sexual partners and unknowingly contracting a cancerous HPV that your wife won't exhibit symptom of until 10 years after you've already been dating. And knowing that you were likely the reason she has cervical cancer or at least one of her past sexual partners was. That's gotta feel awful I imagine. Younger generations of men and women who get the HPV vaccine won't have to worry about those types of outcomes as much as older generations will who didn't have access to the tech at the time. That's amazing to think a specific type of cancer could be almost entirely prevented if enough younger generation people get vaccinated, making it a non-issue going forward for future human generations to come. Everything else capable of killing humanity can still do it, but if enough people get vaccinated, cancer spurred from HPV won't be one of the listed causes of death to report on death certificates anymore. A virus that pre-dates humanity and has been unwittingly killing human beings for the roughly 200,000 years we've walked this Earth. It's amazing to consider and highlights how powerful vaccination is capable of being to the benefit of everyone.
Dems were the original anti-vaxxers, maybe committed Dems are still holding out, kind of like Japanese soldiers after WWII
While its pretty far along, I give hannity credit for the statement and he does have a degree of influence which hopefully will help convince people to get their vaccinations. carlson however, still talks out against the vaccine.
The issue discussed and taken out of co text was Trumps issue with pathological lying if he’s the chief cheerleader in selling a vaccine. There’s nothing said here that isn’t true. A known con artist selling a vaccine isn’t a good thing for trust. What you are leaving out here is that most of these quotes are followed by a display of trust in the medical professionals like Dr Fauci. I don’t expect much from you nowadays but the point you are trying to make here is utter BS. Unless you want to make a case that Trump actually is a truth teller and perfect spokesperson for science and health. Feel free to make that case please.
South Africa is seeing a third wave looking as bad as things were in in India. On top of that civil unrest has meant that medicines and other supplies have been looted.
Yes here is what Biden was saying back last fall. https://apnews.com/article/election...e-wilmington-c668ece77e1457e5bfbe55cc2e92cbd9 Biden says he trusts vaccines and scientists, not Trump By ALEXANDRA JAFFE and WILL WEISSERTSeptember 16, 2020 WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Joe Biden said Wednesday that while he trusts what scientists say about a potential coronavirus vaccine, he doesn’t trust President Donald Trump. His comments come as the debate over a vaccine — how it will be evaluated and distributed when it’s ready — has taken center stage in the presidential race with seven weeks to go until the November election. Trump and Biden have been trading accusations that the other is undermining public trust in a potential coronavirus vaccine. Biden has expressed concerns that the vaccine approval process could be politicized, while Trump and his allies counter that such comments from Biden and other Democrats are turning off the public to a potentially lifesaving vaccine when it’s released. Biden, speaking in Wilmington, Delaware, after being briefed by public health experts about a potential vaccine, cited Trump’s “incompetence and dishonesty” surrounding the distribution of personal protective equipment and coronavirus testing. The U.S. “can’t afford to repeat those fiascos when it comes to a vaccine,” he said. “I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don’t trust Donald Trump,” Biden said, “and at this moment, the American people can’t, either.” On Wednesday evening, Trump raised new questions about the administration’s rollout of a vaccine when he publicly contradicted the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who said at a congressional hearing earlier Wednesday that a vaccine wouldn’t be broadly available to most Americans until the summer of 2021. Trump said that CDC Director Robert Redfield had misspoken and that the U.S. could start distributing a vaccine starting in mid-October. “I think he made a mistake when he said that. I think it’s just incorrect information,” Trump said of Redfield’s comments. “When he said it, I believe he was confused.” He said he called Redfield after his testimony. “I think he just made a mistake. He just made a mistake. I think he misunderstood the question, probably.” Trump also contradicted Redfield on the use of masks. The CDC director told lawmakers that masks are a more effective means of protection against the coronavirus than a potential vaccine, but Trump said he spoke to Redfield afterward about his comments and that “if you ask him, he’d probably say that he didn’t understand the question.” “There are a lot of problems with masks,” Trump said. For his part, Biden has said he would take a vaccine “tomorrow” if it were available but that he would want to “see what the scientists said” first. His running mate, Kamala Harris, has said she wouldn’t trust Trump to be honest about the safety of any potential vaccine and worries that experts and scientists would be “muzzled” by the president because he’s so eager to get a vaccine approved by his stated goal of Election Day. The Trump campaign has accused Biden and Harris of sowing doubt about a potential vaccine by expressing concerns that the approval process could be tainted by politics. On Wednesday, Trump said Biden has “started talking negatively” because “they know we have it or we will soon have it, and the answer to that is very soon.” Biden, meanwhile, responded during his Delaware event to the question of whether his comments could undermine trust in scientists. “No,” Biden said, because Americans “know (Trump) doesn’t have any respect for scientists.” He added that the vaccine approval process should be “totally transparent” and evaluated by a “board of scientists” that could give the public an unbiased opinion. Biden also discussed a vaccine distribution proposal crafted by public health experts and shared with him during his briefing Wednesday. According to the proposal, first responders and those “at the greatest risk” — including those in nursing homes and people with serious preexisting conditions — would get the vaccine first and not necessarily people in minority communities, which have been disproportionately hit by the impacts of the virus. Biden said that “children, ironically, might be the last people to get the vaccine” because it would take time to safely test the vaccine on them. “It has to be done fairly and well,” he said of the vaccine distribution. “It can’t be based on your tax returns, figuratively speaking; it’s got to be based on who is most vulnerable.” Biden also talked about his proposal to instate a national mask mandate, which he says could save tens of thousands of lives. When Biden first proposed it, Trump decried the idea of bringing “the full weight of the federal government on law-abiding Americans” to enforce mask-wearing. During his event Wednesday, Biden acknowledged that he wasn’t sure if he had the legal authority to sign an executive order imposing a federally mandated nationwide mask mandate, but said he had sought legal advice on the issue. “Our legal team thinks I can do that, based upon the degree to which there’s a crisis in those states and how bad things are for the country, and if we don’t do it what happens,” Biden said. He added that, regardless, he would invite governors to the White House and “make the case” to them on the importance of issuing a mask mandate at the state level.
That feels so meta. Someone on TV giving you medical advice not to listen to people on TV giving you medical advice.
Its funny the retrumplicans think this is is a mic drop moment... a women in disguise/costume, spouting falsehoods as quickly as she can get them out...
it is deja vu all over again, reminiscent of the Repug rationalizing candidate Trump's birtherism claim, by conveniently pointing the finger at Hillary as the originator of birhersim, diverting attention away from the Orange hair QAnon was the original birtherism spinner, private citizen Trump parroting that / convenient baseless claim, sprinkled w more lies, such as him hiring an investigator the check on Obama birth certificate Trump spearheaded that false claim for ~ > 5 yr
just latest data from Israel regarding Delta variant... Pfizer/BioNTech is 64% protective against infection and 93% effective in preventing severe disease and hospitalizations. Until the next variant (hopefully not)... Covid19 is very much a preventable disease among those that can be vaccinated.
How can that be when the statement was to trust vaccines and scientists but not trust Trump? p.s. That is politic alright and the reason it sticks is because Trump is a well-known liar that spew out bs, garbage and trumpzares on live TV.
