Hawks' version of cyberx says this about Rockets trade rumor

I guess from Toronto's POV, Lowry was already on his way out anyways so this is pretty much 1. Showing Lowry some love by getting him both money and a way to play for his home town and 2. it's basically an OG for Simmons swap. As much as I dislike Simmons' game, I'd do an OG for Simmons swap. In Toronto Ben would have Siakam, VanVleet and whoever they draft at #4 to be the offense. His main role would be to facilitate and defend and not have to deal with the pressure of having to shoot/score.

 

They must believe in Simmons a lot.

 

Simmons is still young. While i personally would never want a player like him, i can see why some people like him. Especially defensively.

I personally don't enjoy watching the raptors so i don't know all that much about OG but is he as good as advertised? Some people act like he's the next Kawhi. If he is all that, that trade makes no sense.

Lowry/OG for Simmons is an interesting trade construction that I haven’t heard of before and makes a little sense. Everything else there sounds like nonsense.

Not really. If Portland is trading Dame, they are going to go into a full rebuild. As we know well here, adding Ben Simmons for a rebuild does nothing for your team. It would have to be a 3 team deal where Ben goes somewhere else like GS.

 

Lillard, Trent Jr, Simmons, Collins, Barnes is not a rebuilding team. I think you might be misunderstood my comment to the proposed trade where Lillard and Simmons end up in Toronto or I could've been more clear

Is it though? Who's their 2nd scorer behind Dame? I think you'd be relying way too heavily on John Collins to take that massive next step in his game, and I'm not sure he'd get there. That's a 2nd Round team at best IMHO. They'd be better off drafting Jalen Suggs and looking to the future.

 

Yeah but we've seen this kind of thing before. What they do is break it into two trades on paper, but it was all part of the same negotiation. Trade 1: Lowry for Simmons straight up. Trade 2. OG for a trade exemption.

I have no familiarity with the Sixers assets so I don't know if they even have a trade exemption that large, but that's the basic way in which a deal like that can be structured and meet league guidelines.
