lol that was/is for sure me. If he feels that strongly about Suggs to take him 2nd then sure let's roll with it.
Im gonna ask once again, how much do you value KPJ? I also think Green is just a straight up better player than Suggs though.
Hmm....has he really been here long enough to where we are like "oh well if you like Suggs than go for it."
His transactions/moves have been pretty solid to this point. I'm still not a fan of getting Oladipo back in the Harden trade but I guess the silver lining is that he hasn't shown to be incompetent?
https://www.espn975.com/bench/ Chad Ford: What are you hearing about the Rockets willingness and ability to make that jump from 2 to 1? He’s been the guy for most NBA teams. Some analytics guys aren’t as in love with Cade as others but he’s basically been the guy. Plays the most valuable position in the NBA. Shot 40% from three. Clearly has that “it” factor, calm & collected but can become a killer when he needs to. He can take over a basketball game. At worst, he’s a secondary ball handler. He has the highest floor of any prospect in this draft. It’s hard to think of any scenario where Cade isn’t a good NBA player. His floor is Khris Middleton. That’s his floor. He probably doesn’t have the same exact ceiling. He’s not an elite athlete. Turnovers are an issue. Wasn’t a great shooter in HS so some wonder whether it was an aberration. He’ll be really good. Question for the Rockets is to move up one spot, it’ll cost them more than they have now(23 & 24). Probably not enough. They’ll have to go get another pick or put someone else on the table they may not want to put on the table. That’s why I think the talk about Indiana for #13 and Eric Gordon, that’s a signal they’re trying to figure out how to get up to that spot. 2 and 13, I take that deal if I’m Detroit if it’s there. Chance the Rockets see another Harden, we can get back to the type of ball we were used to if we get this lead guy scorer? That’s the argument for Cunningham at one. The preferred way, you need a guy like Cunningham and they’re rare. That combo of skill set and Cade is bigger than Harden. Whether his ceiling is Tatum or Simmons with a jump shot, there’s lots of different comps I’ve heard. Having a guy defend multiple positions and play multiple positions on offense, the jumbo guard that can be a ball handler and shoot the basketball, absolutely that’s what the Rockets are thinking. That’s why Cade is 1. It’s not that he has the highest ceiling but he plays the most important position and they don’t come along often. They’re hard to get. Hard to get in FA, hard to get anywhere. Here’s a guy sitting at one, yeah, maybe you make the deal. For Detroit, they have some highly versatile players but don’t have athletes. Detroit needs some athletes at some point. Timing of hiring of Chris Wallace, did that signing have any potential impact on how the Rockets are going to approach their early draft pick? He does have that experience. I’ve known Chris for a long time. One of the most experienced traditional scouts in the draft. He’s had some great hits and significant misses. One reason I think Daryl ran away from the draft was in part there’s no good analytics or traditional scouting model that can actually nail these players. The data is too noisy I think for Daryl Morey. You balance an analytics bend in the Houston FO with a guy who has a lot of experience with traditional scouting. They had BJ Johnson before he tragically died. BJ was the single best in the entire NBA traditional basketball scout. He was a guy I relied on heavily when putting stuff together. His track record, he was that good. That’s a huge loss for Houston. To bring in Chris to balance that out was a really good move. It requires both. Analytics tell you important things but can’t tell you everything. Traditional scouting tells you important things but not everything.
do not denigrate yourself by trying to think like the Cadavers’ FO. And, I suspect, rather strongly I suggest, that the lotto pix will be made by many different squads than the ones therein slotted. and, of course, Sexton will be becoming a Knixie. Or a Heatie. Or something not a Cavvie.
I'm still amazed at the "luck" they have been getting the past 20 years with where they've been able to draft.
You must have really loved the Ignite? Kuminga even if he falls to 13, still a pass for me. Rather draft Kai or Jalen Johnson over Kuminga.
That's what I've always thought about Morey's avoidance of lottery picks. There is simply no reliable analytics data to judge college talents. Too many surprises, both good and bad.
From what I read over the years, Morey would have handed over Gramma's farm for MKG (out of the league by now, is he?), Ricky Rubio, Marcus Smart (Smart turned out solid but not worth a ton of assets), and shall we never ever again mention taking Marcus Morris over a certain small forward who big hands would prevent him from ever becoming a good 3 point shooter? EDIT: It is pointed out to me later in this thread that Giannis made Morey's nus bubble, which I had forgotten. So, that being in Morey's favor. He knew. Carry on!
…I’d suggest it was impatiently packing the back of the roster with ‘depth’ v development and infusion of fresh legged youth.
