NO is apparently interested in a starter to immediately help with NO making the playoffs next season. What are your thoughts here? Do you think we'd have a shot and what else would we have to throw in to move up those 13 spots? I honestly think Gordon would be perfect there. Anybody think there's that much value moving up?
Old news but I like it still. Kinda bummed about all the expert work i did coming up with my picks at 23 and 24 but oh well.
Don't they hate Gordon in NOLA?? Like to the point where they actually boo him when he plays?? He said some pretty disrespectful things on his way out I believe, and it's left a bad taste in their mouth ever since.
We see EG's name a lot but we dont have an accurate gauge if he is seen as an asset or liab at this point. My guess is he is more a liab cuz Stone was able to move Tucker, RoCo and Dipo but is still stuck with EG. Maybe teams wouldnt mind him but they will send a crappier player on an even longer deal back.
Remember, EG spent 5 unhappy injury-plagued years with the Pelicans, and when he left he kind of went off on the org to the press. It seems like there may be some lingering dissatisfaction from both directions with the way it worked the first time around. Doubt they are the most interested party in acquiring him, and I doubt EG is all that excited at the idea of going back to NO.
We are on the cusp of trading Gordon. He just got injured. He’s the perfect 6th man, IMO. He can pull through as a starter if your starter is injured. I have no problem keeping him.
Perhaps you didn’t see the interrogative position of the thread title. The question is what package would they take. I wasn’t aware of the bad blood with EG and NO—thank you to the other members who brought this up. Sounds like Indiana is the more likely destination.
I don’t think it’s absurd. The talent jump from 23 to 10 isn’t huge. Gordon’s contract is pretty comfortable, considering inflation. Gordon can play an immediate role on any team who wants to be in the playoffs. He will be fresh after time off from his injury. If we had the potential of making the playoffs next season, I wouldn’t have any interest in trading him. You can’t get nearly as much value from a 19 year old in the 10 spot in the draft. These kids simply aren’t ready for anything until a couple of seasons in the NBA. There’s no guarantee that a #10 pick will do anything to earn their salary. Look at Jalen Smith for the Suns. Offers very little value for $4.5 million a year. To win, you really have to have tangible, projectable NBA level talent in their prime. Stone knows this, which is why he is totally open to trade offers for #2. Will Green, Mobley, or Suggs be worth $9 million next season? Quite unlikely. Would you rather have Olynyk at 13 million a year for 4 years or Mobley for 9 million? Me? Olynyk all day every day. $9 million a year works for me ONLY for Suggs, Cunningham or Green. And with Green, you would have to assume he’d be fighting above his weight class for the first two seasons and you’re not going to see a return until 2024. It’s just a different era with young players in the draft. Doncic and Young are rare. It takes time for most of these players to develop and they’re not worth the risk at $8-$10 million a year for a 4 year window. With that in mind, I love Giddey’s potential at anything in the #8 and under range and hope we trade up or down to get him.
Eric Gordon is 32 and has played in just 36 and 27 games the past 2 years…he’s also been pretty terrible on the court for awhile now Eric Gordon and the 23rd pick getting u the 10th pick is incredibly delusional
No matter which way you try to explain it away, Eric Gordon is not a piece that any team that has a high draft pick is looking to lose that draft pick for. Especially when their thanks for doing so is a draft pick 13 places back. Gordon today, is the player Tilman will do his favourite move for. You know, attach a draft pick to get rid of. Not the scenario above netting us a top pick in the draft. Yikes.
What is the value difference between Kai Jones or Franz Wagner? Corey Kispert and Jalen Johnson? You act like the NBA draft is a hard science. Known assets are always worth more to a contending team than prospects. Quantifying the jump from 23 to 10 really has more to do with how much one team is sold on an individual talent.
