id rather watch a good player play for us NOW ...noone of us knows if hell be alive in 2 years or will want to watch basketball if so...Tate may be the next kawhi for all we know and I want him playing 36 minutes for rockets this year!
fyi harden gave us nothing if youre a ring culture people if not then tate and wood can give us some exciting and nice years and/or be a legit supporting cast if we draft, develop or trade for a superstar
Lol I bet not even 1% of y’all knew that Jae-Sean Tate was a basketball player this time last year, and now y’all wouldn’t trade him for the 13th pick?! SMDH I like Tate as much as the next guy and can see his value past whatever he gets in the box score but some of y’all are really overrating him. It’s natural for fans to over hype their own players (Herro over Harden for Heat fans lmao) but let’s be real here, the Rockets won 17 games last season. No one on this roster is untouchable. Some are safer than others but if some team offers a top-8 pick or multiple good future 1sts for Wood, I hope Stone deeply considers taking that deal. The Rockets need talent in the worst way. The 13th pick has way more value than Tate for this team.
If Tate is all Indiana wants for the 13th pick we'd be foolish to say no. If it's Tate and either the 23rd or 24th pick we'd still be foolish to say no. This team needs as many tries in the draft to get star players and holding onto a 25 year old rookie is not a move a rebuilding team can afford to make.
I think it's more like finding a DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. When you find it, you don't want to lose it. Not that Tate is untradable but what are you getting back? It's more like a KNOWN QUANTITY vs The UNKNOWN QUANTITY. The #13 pick sounds nice but it's not proven, even #2 is not proven.
Not knowing who someone is a year ago has no bearing on what a team should do with a player in the present…are you saying tate straight up for 13? I say no If were very lucky, the 13 pick would be as good as Tate was last year…he’s not untouchable, but this would be a bad use of him because most likely we’re getting a player back that isn’t as good OR as cheap, even if he is younger
... but you're also getting back a player who may not be gone by the time the Rockets are actually good again. Rockets have a team option for Tate for 2022-3, then he'll be 28 by the start of the next season in search of his first real payday. His trade value will never be higher than it currently is.
I understand that. I don't think you're wrong for that. You enjoy watching Tate play and want instant gratification. I want what I believe to be best for the big picture. And watching a good role player play on a terrible team for two years does nothing for me.
Well, s***, if you're going to make me see the light, I might as well underscore the words that brought me around. James Brown's Preacher Character: Do you see the light? ROXTXIA: Yes! Yes! Jesus H. Tap-Dancing Christ, I see the light! (Parenthetically, I like Tate, but I see some players in this draft outside of that top 4 who I'd really like our Rockets to nab. So, something like the #13 would be needed.)
Do you know what people do when they find diamonds in the rough? They sell them and look for more diamonds. In this case you are trading a small diamond for the chance to find a huge diamond in the draft.
Could Sengun at 13 be the play? I like how he's always busting it down the court. Not taking plays off or half assing. If you screw up you screw up full speed. I see him more as the modern 5 and maybe get Wood playing some 4. How much of a lesser prospect is Sungun to Evan Mobley in the big picture? If you could draft Jalen Green and Even Mobley in the same draft you would do it right? Hate to lose JST, but in this scenario it would make some sense. KPJ Jalen Geen KMJ Sengun Wood ???
Tate for 13 is intriguing. I'd like to keep Tate but there is also lots intriguing prospects in the teens. I wouldn't do Tate & 24 for 13. If Gordon & 23 for 13 is on the table you take it. But confident it isn't. I mean they have LaVine & Lamb.(Brogdon & the Holiday brothers too as backup) While they only have Warren at the forward positions. Sounds like we went to them offered House & 24 for 13 and they countered with Tate & 24 for 13. Makes more sense when you read about them not wanting someone on an expiring (House). And reports suggest Houston went to them.
Trade 24 and Tate (or Gordon) for 13. Trade 13, 23, Wood, cash, whatever for 3 (doubt Cleveland does this but you have to try). Use 2 and 3 to draft Mobley and Green. Not going to happen but I’m split on Mobley and Green so this scenario I wouldn’t have to choose sides
I’m just saying that the Rockets are not in a position to keep any of the players on the roster. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no one on this roster that is a true foundational piece. KPJ is probably the closest but if the Mavs offer Luka for KPJ and the 2nd, I think I would take that. I just feel like we as fans just overvalue our own players. Tate is a great player and I love having him on our team but if a team offers you a lottery pick in a deep draft, I think that’s easily way more valuable than Tate. Over the past 10 years or so seasons, the 13th pick has been Herro (tbd what he’ll become), Mitchell, Booker, Lavine, Morris (Kawhi at 15). Kobe was the 13th pick in his draft. There’s star potential at that 13th spot.
Yeahhhh .. I think I would also take Luka for KPJ and the 2nd. Im not sure why though. /s I think even hinting at that type of return offers an insight into the mystique that is KPJ. In the real world: KPJ has just finished his first year of full time PG duties and exceeded everyone's expectations yet so many want to write him off as a crackhead in waiting and/or mental case. Ready to take project BIGS at 2, but not interested in developing one of your own on the same timeline? Strange.
I don’t think Cleveland would bite, but we might be able to swing something a little different. The above package to Toronto for 4. We would then take Mobley and Suggs or you could see about dropping to 3 and 4 since Mobley is coveted by Cleveland. If we could extract a couple future picks (2022 unprotected our 2nd back for dropping to 3 we could do that and pick up Suggs and Green. All this is moot if Cade is available. Under that scenario, trade Tate for 13 and be done.
You think? Lol. I'm sure you'd have to attach all the Brooklyn picks as well to make that happen lol.
