Why is this even an argument. Chris Bosh might be one of the most overrated players of all time. Who can't win a ring with Wade and Lebron? Dude literally scored 0 pts in an NBA finals game...
Shaq was past his prime on the Heat when Wade won. Raptors had no elite big. The warriors had no elite big. Jordan and Pippen dominated during first three peat without an elite big.
Shaq averaged 20 points the year he won with Wade. Wade doesn’t win that championship without Shaq. Siakam is underrated and the Raptors don’t win without him. That’s a great example since Leonard hasn’t replicated his success despite a massive upgrade at guard. Since you want to go all the way back to Jordan, who won the couple years when he retired?
T-E-A-M. No one really believes Green (or Mobley or Suggs) is going to be the best player on a championship team or lead the Rockets to a championship, do they? (OK, maybe only the delusional “Green gang” thinks that.) 2020 LA Lakers : Lebron (SF) — AD 2019 Toronto Raptors : Kawhi (SF) — Lowry/Siakam 2018 Golden State Warriors : Durant (SF) — Curry/Thompson/Green 2017 Golden State Warriors : Durant (SF) — Curry/Thompson/Green 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers : Lebron (SF) — Kyrie/Love 2015 Golden State Warriors : Curry (PG) — Thompson/Green 2014 San Antonio Spurs : Kawhi (SF) — Duncan/Parker/Ginobili 2013 Miami Heat : Lebron (SF) — Wade/Bosh 2012 Miami heat : Lebron (SF) — Wade/Bosh 2011 Dallas Mavericks : Dirk (PF) — Chandler, Terry/Butler/Marion/Kidd 2010 Los Angeles Lakers : Kobe (SG) — Gasol 2009 Los Angeles Lakers : Kobe (SG) — Gasol 2008 Boston Celtics : Pierce (SF) — Garnett/Allen 2007 San Antonio Spurs : Duncan (PF) — Parker/Ginobili 2006 Miami Heat : Wade (SG) — Shaq 2005 San Antonio Spurs : Duncan (PF) — Parker/Ginobili 2004 Detroit Pistons : Billups (PG) — Hamilton, Sheed, Ben, Prince 2003 San Antonio Spurs : Duncan (PF) — Parker 2002 Los Angeles Lakers : Kobe (SG) — Shaq 2001 Los Angeles Lakers : Shaq (C) — Kobe 2000 Los Angeles Lakers : Shaq (C) — Kobe Hell if they turn into their “lower end” comps (Green-LaVine?; Mobley-Jackson?), consider it a “success”. Michael Jordan, Kobe, AD…LOL
No he’s not. It cracks me up how the pro-guard contingent lumps 1 - 3 together then refers to any big who can shoot a 3 as “more of a wing.”
It's funny because the Heat beat a team with two elite guards (Westbrook and Harden) and an elite Forward pretty easily... Lebron was past his prime when he won with the Cavs...an all time great player being past their prime is still better than 90% of the league. Those were Shaq's last good years, https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/2006-nba-finals-heat-vs-mavericks.html Shaq was their 2nd best player, no one is saying he was their best, but yall steady try to downplay any and all value a big has. If the Suns win I swear people will act like Ayton contributed nothing at all to the effort.
Harden was hardly elite at that time. Coming off the bench as a 6th man. And we all know Westbrook might be the dumbest player in nba history. Lebron and Wade were just better on the perimeter. Bosh is irrelevant. If you want Mobley to be like Bosh what does that get us? A 20-10 guy as a primary option that can't take his team to the playoffs. Once again hoping we get to pair him with the best player of his generation...
Before trading for Kawhi Siakam played the small forward position. He's more of a 3/4 than a 4/5. He always have 3/4 eligibility in fantasy as well. He's always been a wing. There are more examples of teams winning it all without elite big men than teams winning without elite perimeter players. Hakeems Rockets might be the only one...
Getting back on point. Mobley is butter from right corner. Actually just crazy efficient on the right side in general. I keep hearing that he was a liability on offense?
Anyone who watches that game can’t say it is a “one off”. Green got taken to the shed and was clearly in a lower tier than Porter (who is just one year older). Green CANNOT offensive or defensive rebound and annoyingly starts running back every time a teammates’ shot is in the air. Me and my son were actually laughing a a couple points in the game where his four teammates were fighting and diving for the ball and he was nowhere to be seen on the screen because he had prematurely run back for the defense he was never gonna play anyways. Watched his high school games and same thing. He does have super athletic ability (which is not utilized in his all around game) and offensive talent but he is typically a minus on the plus/minus due to his shortcomings.
Lol what? How did you infer that from what I said? I have no clue how good Green or Mobley will be. Best player of the generation was a comment based on Bosh only winning with Lebron. So we can get Mobley and pray we get whoever the best player will be, cuz that's the recipe for winning with bigs.. Green might also be a bust, but reaching for bigs has always been a disaster in all the most recent drafts
Anyone that thinks Bosh is irrelevant or big man have no impact on the game is a casual. A lot of this post kind of proves it, nothing wrong with being a casual but... Games aren't just determined by who has the better guards or perimeter play. To say so is just ridiculous, Bosh was their 3rd best player and despite your post, actually did take his team to the playoffs. That he looked bad compared to Wade and Lebron...no duh...and Manu Ginobili would have carried many bad teams if he wasn't playing alongside Parker and Duncan. Best player of his generation...yall are going way too far with this. He's a really good prospect but I'm not even sure he's better than Jaden Hardy as a guard prospect.
Bosh isn't irrelevant but if he is a HOFer and compared to the All time greats, he isn't really that high up.
Overall: Evan Mobley is a hyper-modern big with an enormous frame, upside as a complete offensive player, and an all-defense upside. While Mobley needs to improve his skinny, long frame, he can make an impact defensively due to his length and quick feet, both near the rim and on the perimeter, making him uniquely versatile. The one thing Mobley needs to become more consistent at is defensive awareness. While he still was, and likely will be, a positive defender, the college game has no 3 in the key penalty, which could have hidden some of his defensive awareness lackings that were shown just a handful of times at USC. It’s a minor problem, but could be one that matters come playoff time if it still lingers. Offensively, Mobley has the potential to do nearly everything. I buy his jump shooting because he has a simple release that starts high, making his shot hard to block, both off the dribble and from a standstill. He also showed creation ability, using between the legs moves into pull-up jumpers, which is incredibly difficult to guard when the ball-handler is 7 feet tall. He can also finish at a high rate, thanks to his length that allows him to finish either around or above defenders. Look for Mobley to immediately make a difference in the frontcourt wherever he gets drafted to. Expected role: Starting big with all-star upside as a two-way big with some wing skills, giving him elite versatility. Unplayable if: Highly unlikely, but this would be due to a jumper not developing, along with the combination of his frame and/or defensive off-ball awareness never fully maturing. Exceeds expectations if: The best case for Mobley entirely relies on his jumper. If Mobley can consistently hit, and thus likely create, his own jumper, he has a realistic chance at becoming the best player in the draft.
