For the love of God, the Rockets should not take Green over Mobley and Suggs. I was very very very excited for the Rockets to take Green and then watched the full G-League game where Porter took on Green. Green’s defense is absolutely horrid and he makes zero effort to get rebounds. No effort at all on the defensive side and no effort on the offensive side to follow up shots of teammates for rebounds or to keep plays alive. I was pissed off by the end of the game. He even starts back down the court whenever a person other than himself shoots. This game 100% changed my mind on Green and I now want anyone other than him. Please watch the link and see how very much better a player Porter is than Green. Not even close. Think of Green as a more athletic Ben McLemore (with worse defense and effort level). He is a media hyped fun highlight reel player and that’s it. Again…no effort at all on defense and when it is not his offensive turn. No surprise that his team with talent frequently is on the losing end of games. Rockets need to avoid this disaster and take (the boring, but high IQ winning player) Mobley or trade back and get Suggs!!!
You realize a defensive game is alot easier to develop and pick up on than offense right? Especially for 7 foot skinny boys
His highlight reels aren't everything. I watched his film session and he's aware of everything that goes on. He's aware that he went above a screen when he should've gone under. He knows the scouting report. He sees himself as a two way player and definitely can become one. If you want to look at one game, might as well bring up Mobley against Timme in the tournament. Mobley didn't look good in that game. Green has most upside and his defense will improve over time. Also, Harden always got criticized for his defense yet fans still backed him up and enjoyed watching his offensive ability. Green will be just fine
I forgot how bad Porter's starting 5 were - and Vipers still manhandled the more talented and deeper Ignite team. And there were ZERO grown ass men on the Vipers.
I always find it funny when someone is ready to bash a top player in the draft, they may be right, but easily could look absolutely ridiculous within a year. Maybe send this to Patrick.
I think the really big big big mistake here is to judge a player's entire worth based solely off one good or bad performance, Green and Mobley are both exceptional talents. They remind me of young superheros trying to figure out their newfound powers and abilities. Thus there's bound to be some hiccups along the way. They're also both going out there and trying new things as they continue to expand their games and I applaud them for that. That's how you grow as a player. And best of all neither of them will be suiting up for OKC
That’s exactly how I’ve seen his game too. He has shown a very one dimensional game so far and that one dimension didn’t look dominating in the G league. His handles are suspect for a starting NBA SG and he doesn’t seem to have a natural feel for team basketball. Ben McLemore might actually be a decent comp for him. https://www.nbadraft.net/players/ben-mclemore/ I don’t know if Mobley is the answer for the #2 pick either. I like Mobley’s skill set on defense but he needs to gain 30 lbs ASAP. He’s going to get blown off the NBA court with his current weight. His offense has potential but doesn’t seem like it could be relied on.
Giannis was 195 lbs when he was drafted. 215 is actually huge compared to that. But Mobley will gain 20 easily enough, the rest will come through pro weight program and as his body matures.
Jalen had just turned 19 the month prior to this game, so comparing him to KPJ who was 21 at the time does not seem fair. A lot can happen within 2 years of pro experience. Put Jalen up against the best 17 year old in the country and see what he does to him.
Jalen Green has 1.5 steals, he has improved throughout the G League season. In 5 months in video he is fighting over screens and moving his feet on defense. He is 19 years old and this off-season he is working on defense drills.
Or better yet roll the Gonzaga game where bench role players take the ball straight to the hole right over him! They jump out to a commanding lead with layup drills.
