Big men are the most likely busts in any draft. If Mobley was bust proof, he'd be going ahead of Cade. Suggs is probably the most bust proof of the Top 4.
Jalen's innate talent and athleticism is already in the 99%. Even in the NBA few guys are jumping off either or both legs equally well. Then you pair that with a lightning quick first step, absurd hang time and his North/South style of play and you have a serious problem on your hands. His polished offensive game and footwork are already quite advanced for most prospects his age. The separation he creates on his offensive moves is truly ridiculous. Finally you have a maniacal work ethic and desire to be one of the greats. Personally I love the irrational confidence being displayed by someone so young even if it never comes to fruition. What separates a Vince Carter or Tracy McGrady from a Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan? They're all world class athletes. I'd argue that a large part of that stems from outworking your piers and having a dogged mentality to win at all costs. I think most of the Green Gang see this kid and envision a future star in this league, and I don't find that to be all that farfetched. Either way both of these kids are exceptional talents. It's easy to see why everyone is so excited by what each brings to the table.
I had been saying for a couple of months now that Green is the star of this draft. The league tried to play him because he chose the GLeague route over the conventional college route. Now they're all in on Green after jocking Cade Cunningham for months. Jalen Green will go down in history as the player who brought the NCAA to its knees. Now they have to pay.
That's what I'm saying. See I know you are part of the Mobley Maniacs or whatever the name is but I think you long to be part of Gang Green.
I feel like the two main disagreements can be bucketed into two categories: Different philosophies on how to build a roster (starting with building block #1 in our case) Defensive anchor with high offensive potential vs elite play making ability + burning desire to get better People confusing the "gang green" with being excited about his highlights (young crowd heavily influencing that), but in reality we're excited about his ability and how he will work hard to maximize his ability. There's some players whose work ethic is top 1%, but ability is average. They become really good supporting cases: Patrick Beverley, Kyle Lowry, etc. Green has elite work ethic and elite ability, which usually results in an All-Star at a minimum. One of the things I keep going back to is he is already beloved by the Philippines (calling him idol) and instead of seeing that as success he uses it as a responsibility to the people. He knows that isn't just something to take for granted. He wants so much more... that really, really matters to me. The fire to get better paired with elite ability is hard to pass up. I am happy we got the #2 pick overall, and trying to guess these players NBA careers is damn near impossible... so I'm glad this is what we are discussing because all top 3 players are building blocks and 2022/2023 is loaded with stars as well
Another comp that just hit me, a less exciting one but maybe realistic SGA without the passing, and slightly less length I see a lot of similarities between their movements, size, shot hitting ability, driving/finish ability
Tatum or taller Shai have been my 2 comps for Cunningham Shai is a guy I bring up to show that u don’t need Westbrook athleticism to be able to kill it in the NBA and get wherever u want to go on the court Shai just put up 24, 5, and 6 on 51/42/81 shooting splits in his 3rd season…if that’s what Cade could do as well, I would take that all day
Okay guys how about this - we trade John wall and the number two pick to NYK then we trade Eric Gordon , the 23 and 24 pick imagine the luxury tax Savings!
Im talking about Green breh lol I think Shai is pretty athletic, quick and explosive enough to finish despite his frame, not WB obviously but not nobody is like WB
oops…Cade Cunningham’s been on my mind with all the talk of trading up today I don’t see Shai with Jalen Green…Green is far more explosive, and Shai plays at a much more methodical pace and has a much longer wingspan than Green with his 6’11.5 wingspan…Shai plays more like Cunningham
Interesting podcast. When talking about #2 pick, Feigen mentions that the Rockets love players who are always in the gym trying to get better, which definitely sounds like Jalen Green. His prediction based on gut feeling is also Jalen Green. In terms of possibly trading the #2 pick, he said there's been no mention of that to his knowledge. He talks to agents and people around the league, and the fact that he hasn't heard anything as of yet, tends to mean there is nothing in terms of trading the #2 pick. Now obviously things can change. Also he says his mock drafts are both gut feeling and what he hears around the league. Sorry for such a long post, but anyone notice the Jalen Green content from the Rockets side? Nothing about Mobley? Still a few weeks away from the draft, but as a Jalen Green fan, I like the direction where things are headed. I'd be shocked if Pistons pass on Cade by the way.
I'm a firm believer that Green is a surefire future superstar in the league. Eventually the game is going to slow down for this kid and when it does watch out. Meanwhile he'll stay locked in the gym honing his skill set and mastering his craft before binging film. Jalen craves competition and surrounds himself with all the right people. Ja Morant is already in his corner fulfilling that big brother mentor role. Hopefully those two will be having plenty of conversations and workouts where Green can expand upon his passing and playmaking abilities especially out of the pick and roll. I think it's safe to assume he'll constantly be working out with the top trainers, while also drilling and getting runs in with the superstars of this league. Hell he's already shown to have been doing exactly that for years now. This is an all world athletic freak with a burning desire to be great that falls back upon good old fashioned hard work as his calling card.
