Okay but Evan Mobley is NOT Hasheem Thabeet. You might as well have compared Greg Ostertag to Bostjan Nachbar
We don’t even know if Mobley is a front court or wing in the NBA…. And people want to act like Mobley isn’t high variance.
Great read. This part really stood out to me. "A handle is one of the hardest to develop skills at the NBA level and the number of players that have dramatically shifted their handling profile during their career is minimal." Exhibit # 1 B Mac
Mobley is not a major project player, so your argument is moot. Bad narrative. This is a question 95% of teams have to ask themselves with every top 5 pick.
I would take the 7 foot Horford who has better passing skills. Beal does not seem to contribute to winning as much. To me this is about building a championship team not who can be a leading scorer in the NBA.
Of course it matters. Are we getting a defensive anchor that can guard 1-5 or we getting a perimeter defensive player that can weak side block?
I guess I would just go with the better talent and go through normal team building to fill out the roster….. much easier to trade for a Horford than a Beal…. As we’ve seen the past 5-6 seasons.
Just curious - do you feel Al Horford has had the better roster construct around him during his career? I mean Horford has never won a ring either, and it just feels like Beal has been on pretty bad teams throughout his career, while Horford has at least played on better teams. In a team sport its hard to point at rings and use it as ammunition when so many things peripherally have to go right.
Lavine is a high scorer and Beal is as well and how much winning have they done? And there have been a lot of people who were considered elite athletes that did not become high scorers, B Mac, A Wiggins etc. So yeah if all was looking for is the guy who would most likely be a high scorer I would pick Green but I am looking at building a team so I am looking at it in the Macro. And this is not anti Green I just don't see him contributing to winning more than Mobley.
Horford has won at a much higher level than either of those guys, both Lavine and Beal have missed the playoffs more times than not. I can't break down the team rosters but Horford has not played with a lot of great players either.
That's pretty much the way I see it too. The case for Green is that one day maybe he'll be a high scoring SG that makes flashy highlights. The case for Mobley is that he'll be a better overall player as a 2 way player and as such he'll contribute more to winning. Flash vs substance. Do you want a Zach LaVine type or a Tim Duncan type? Duncan never averaged 27 points per game, he never won a dunk contest, he didn't have the flashy highlights LaVine already has.....and the Spurs were better off for it.
LOL. What can't Mobley do!?!?!/ ..... except go up against Gonzaga with actual NBA talent and effect the game. But hey..... details.
I like how Booker used to be the empty stats, no defense, never won anything SG comparison. Now that he's in the finals we've moved on to Lavine. Forget about the horrible roster construction and coaching turnover these guys have dealt with, these guys are losers amirite?
Mobley isn't Tim Duncan, physically he is not and know one knows if he is mentally like Tim Duncan. Mobley Mob is just ASSuming Mobley has the demeanor and kind of Kawhi and Tim Duncan..... "Substance" that got completely outplayed when up against Gonzaga. Timme took both Mobleys to the shed..... Beal vs Horford.... I'm taking Beal.
past 5-6 seasons? How about a young or prime Horford which is what we should be talking about not the last years and did you notice Horford got 2 big contracts over those 5 or 6 years? Why are we talking about a trade anyway, if we have to trade the #2 pick we are ****ed either way.
