Yeah this got radioactive pretty quickly. There was that third employee who recorded Nichols' comments on a phone and forwarded them to Taylor. I don't follow or watch anything so just got into this story via the New York Times article.
This coming from the network that ran Jemele Hill out the door (even though I kind of found her show annoying). If ESPN would just hire the right people from the get go and let them do their thing they’d be a much better product. The fact that Brian Windhorst is like their leading NBA expert and Woj has to share the screen with that guy is an embarrassment. Rachel Nichols knows her stuff and is super plugged into the NBA. Running her out would be stupid but seems inevitable at this point. Also… she was deflecting obviously but she’s not wrong that it is super creepy that ESPN would allow footage of a female colleague alone in her hotel room secretly recorded to get circulated. How that’s not a big part of the story is baffling to me.
Jack dropping that knowledge. I hope this incident creates meaningful discussions about not always making white people evil if race is involved. It's getting a bit like Trumpers with the Libs, they all are evil just because they are liberal. I'm deathly afraid we are gonna instill a lot of negativity in the youngsters that are growing up.
Taylor exploiting ESPNs wokeness to try and racially grieve her way to an undeserved paycheck through calculated leaks is amusing to watch. And she might succeed. ESPN hoisted by their own woke petard.
From the same channel that brought you Erin Andrews... I think the official accounts were that Rachel had to set it up remotely during covid and didn't realize it was a hot mic situation. The staff at headquarters who kept on recording...not sure if they were punished or not.
a la Laura Okmin of Fox Sports getting re-assigned in favor of a younger one. another eg had been the 50+ Black Pam Oliver getting re-assigned in favor of a 30-something blonde Erin Andrew
I didn't think Rachel said anything that bad. I didn't really hear her insulting Taylor (She was insulting the ESPN executives), just upset at the thought of getting bumped for reasons outside of her performance which is fair to be upset about.
Not trying to be that guy, but Ernie's episode on The Inside Story (TNT-produced docuseries) is literally called "Ernie Johnson: The Traffic Cop"
Lol at this kind of nuttery. I don't think Rachel Nichols did anything wrong here to be honest. Her comments weren't horribly out of line but definitely are insensitive - still it's a private conversation and that has to be taken into account. But to invent a story now by saying Taylor is exploiting ESPN and such without evidence - that kind of false accusation is sickening.
There is a reason this just leaked during her contract negotiations impasse, it happened initially about a year ago. You should listen to what Amin and Hill say about it on the Lebetard show. Just saying its not out of the realm of possibility and what CAA would do to get top money.
