I wonder what you can really make out of a park factor for Sugar Land based on such limited information. It would be surprising to me if SL is that pitcher friendly given that it was formerly an independent league park where I would assume hitters typically have far less power than in AAA. I certainly buy Asheville though being an extremely friendly hitters park.

Francis Martes went unclaimed. Which means he remains with the organization without being on the 40 man roster… which is good, IMO.

Hopefully he can build off of his last 2 appearances, because they seemed pretty solid.

That kinda surprises me even with all his baggage and his lack of performance in his first few appearances this season. Maybe the stuff isn't there anymore or there are personaity/coachability concerns still present and widely known through the league.

Carrillo allowed a hit and struck out five over six shutout innings today.

Also, looks like I lied about the game length in the FCL; it's still 9 innings.

Sounds like the park factors are based solely on home/away stats. If this is the case, it would only mean that SL is more pitcher friendly than other AAA West parks, but not necessarily pitcher friendly versus parks in other leagues.

Francis Martes helped us get over Mark Appel. When a lot of us were giving up hope on Appel, Francis Martes gave us hope to forget and move on from Appel.

I still hope Martes figures it out. But it's been a few wasted years for Martes, and he may be on his fading dream of being a capable MLB player. But there is still a sliver of hope. He's been sidelined by injuries, by performance drugs, etc.

Martes is a minor league FA this offseason, we'll see what the Stros think of him then.

Other AA teams appear to have figured out Jonathan Bermudez. His ERA for the season is up over 4 after last nights 4 er in 4 ip.

I don't know how many chances he has left, but I'm never a fan of giving up on talented pitchers. Case in point, Framber had hella control issues in the minors and when he first came up. Then once he started working with with the best pitching coach in the league he turns into an ace. So, if Martes stuff is good and has issues with control (his problem may be between his ears) we shouldn't give up on him completely. It is unlikely he reaches his potential if he doesn't take to coaching though. Seems like the organization is ready to move on from him though.

It’s a minor move, but Click should be applauded for knowing Martes real value to other teams well enough to get him through waivers. Just as it’s a small negative when a guy is lost via waivers, it’s a small positive when a team is able to get a guy through. Now Houston has 2 months to evaluate whether or not he’s worth keeping around without him tying up a 40 man spot.

How I'd group Houston's position player prospects in terms of discussing them in trades:

"We consider him a core piece of our future, so we aren't trading him unless its for another long-term controllable core piece": Pedro Leon, Korey Lee

"We think he is very underrated, so if you want him, you're going to have make a trade that will be widely viewed as an overpay": Joe Perez, Jake Meyers, Abraham Toro

"We don't think there's enough info for us to properly value him right now, so we are very reluctant to discuss him": Dauri Lorenzo, Jeremy Pena

"We are open to trading him, but we view him as a very likely MLB contributor with everyday upside, so any trade should value him accordingly": Ronnie Dawson, Mike Papierski, JJ Matijevic, Norel Gonzalez, Bryan De La Cruz

"We aren't selling low on him, but of course we're willing to discuss it": Freudis Nova, Zach Daniels, Jordan Brewer, Grae Kessinger

"If you like him, we can discuss him as one key piece in a trade for your good RP": Alex McKenna, Matthew Barefoot, Scott Manea, Taylor Jones, Garrett Stubbs, any others

After a horrible May where he went in the IL, Ross Adolph had a .1131 OPS in June. Worth watching if he can sustain that.

Pedro Leon his his 8th HR just now.

Since June 1st Leon is hitting 301/420/548/968 with a 162 wRC+ and a 14.8% BB rate/28.4% K rate. I think the Astros scouting got it right on this guy, although I was worried initially.

Yep, they said he was a baseball rat. Someone who is willing to do whatever to learn and be great. He has such a high ceiling if he continues to progress. Love it.

Leon does not look like a SS or CF and it would be easy for a traditional scout to label him as having a bad or risky body type. But he obviously has an elite combination of power and speed. I would love some more concrete reports on his defense. I am going to my first ever Hooks game in a few weeks so I’m lookin forward to seeing him and will def be looking to see for myself if he looks like he will stick up the middle, because for now he definitely looks like the offense will be there.

I only listed position players, guy. Houston has a lot of pitchers other teams will be asking about and I expect any trades they make to be based around sending out near-ready MLB pitching.

I would have Hunter Brown in between the “core piece” and “we don’t know what we have yet” categories. If they trade him, it better be for something damn good.

Seems to me the hardest thing to get is concrete reports on minor league defense.
