Hate to hear this. I have done a ton of work with cancer patients. I'm hoping (I know that is the wrong word) this is a Wilm's tumor, and is totally curable....

From my experience, which deals far less in peds....people going through cancer don't really want you to talk about their cancer. If they bring it up, for sure, engage, and be raw, but otherwise, more often than not, they are doted on and treated very differently because of their diagnosis. Most want normalcy.

This may be different for a kid. Some kids do like attention. The vast majority of kids like fun and love. Just try and provide both during these tough times.

Love the feedback. We went out to dinner a couple times but nothing romantic yet and that's obviously off the table. I'm just truly sorry for her son. He was literally playing Little League last Month.

I'm doing all I can and I expect nothing but crap from KingCheetah, et.al. And I'm good with that! Humor can be fun!

But, Jesus. a 10 year old.

Is his prognosis good, if you don't mind me asking?

He's doing surgery Friday. 30% survival.

I posted this. I got nothing.

I know music. I can't come up with a song that deals with her struggles. It hurts. And I'm a schmuck.

Best thing I've liked so far.

    Please share other options.

I never ask for anything here, but this one hurts.

    Y'all know me. I'm an *******. I'm Fatty. And I'm broken.

I'll be fine! But this ain't me. I love that it shows who I am.

My doubles partner in high school had leukemia around 16 and is doing great 15 years later. I also had a melanoma at 22, luckily caught it before it was 1cm in depth (8mm), and am doing well 9 years later with just 2 other cases we were able to catch early with regular checkups.

No movies to share but all thoughts to the child. 50/50 is decent but deals with an adult. Cancer blows but we can get through it.

I feel for you, and him, and his mom, for sure. Good vibes sent your way.

Miracles do happen. And more and more happen all the time. After surgery, there should be a few other avenues to explore to give him the longest life with the best odds of complete survival as possible.

One I always liked, though I'm not sure it's appropriate for the situation:

Kid just got my Evel Kneivel Stunt Cycle Toy. He looks as healthy as any 10 year old boy and he was so thankful. Just like any 10 year old on Christmas.

I'm broken. And I can't even imagine the Mom right now. How strong she must have to be when I'm barely able to watch a damn video of a 10 year old thanking me for a stupid toy. And he was so grateful. Breaks my heart. The whole thing breaks my damn heart.

Forget completely about the topic of cancer or illness to show her. -unless she asked you for a recommendation herself.
Either go for smth like a fantasy /adventure or for a good family inspiring movie. But nothing that has anything to do with sickness.
Ofc you have good intentions and want to emotionally support but you have to be more subtle about it not try to pick open wounds at this time.

This whole thing is probably my third biggest fear for my kids, number one being abducted and two being burned terribly.

The best thing you can do is be there. As men, we tend to try to 'fix' things but there's no fix for this other than showing unconditional love for the mom and child. Just be there. It is good for your soul.

There's the Make a Wish foundation that could give him a great vacation. You could start a gofundme for costs and a little extra for comfort for the family.

A gofundme sound like a good idea. I don't know the mom's financial situation, but the boy's likely going to be getting treatment for a good while, missing classes, missing friends... and missing out on things kids that age do.

A trip to Disney World, or Sea World, or a PlayStation... anything to put a smile on his face. :(

She just got the biopsy results in today. Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. Doctor gave him a 1% chance of survival which I think is really F%^&ed up. He's at TMC. I told her to try MDA, and she's already doing that and another hospital in Dallas.

Anyone knowing a hook-up to the Astros would be great. He's a huge fan.

And another huge favor would be for all of you to follow his sisters podcast. If she gets 50 followers she can get sponsors. Would really be grateful.
