The logic of this thread is wrong, you don't draft a player based on the match ups used by other teams in a playoff game. That's cherry picking evidence to reinforce an opinion you already had. The Rockets already have plenty of small ball options with 'bigs' like Tate and KMJ on the roster. I don't know if the Rockets should draft Green, Mobley or Suggs, but can we all agree to debate in one thread perhaps?
Let me get the thought process behind this thread straight: We are using as conclusive proof that we should draft a small not a big one particular game where a fairly average starting C was injured? And in this one single game, the replacement bigs (48 minutes worth) scored 37 points on 16-28 shooting. I know there is logic there somewhere. I just can't find it.
Since you're blind to the logic, let me direct you better so you can see. The synopsis is not just in one game but in theory! You can make more adjustments with small players than with a big, thus a big is more confined. With Green, he already handles the ball, so in a crunch you could use him at the 1, 2 or 3 and as any intelligent person knows, the person with the ball can effect the game the most. However with Mobley it's either at the 4 or 5. I used last night's game more or less as an example. Since the Rockets are not in the playoffs but faced with an important decision in deciding between Green and Mobley, I thought last night's game shined light on how going small in a crunch helped negate a big (Ayton). And before you go there, I'm not saying we should go small. Just that with wing players you can do more and that Green should be the pick....CLEAR AND PRECISE LOGIC.
Here’s a much larger sample size: The 2020 Houston Rockets. Failed miserably with Harden, Westbrook, Covington, Gordon and our center Tucker!!! We should pick Mobley and never look back at that nightmare smallball of MDA.
Green can't be used at the 1 any more than Eric Gordon or Martin could be....I mean, you could do it, but it wouldn't end well. You'd be better off having Mobley run the offense because he's got more PG skills than Green does. Green is a traditional SG, he can shoot and he can call his own number, but asking him to do anything more than that is asking for trouble and setting him up for failure.
nice observation, also i am not sure if mda would approve of morrises and PG midrange eventho they killed the suns with it
not sure if great comparison since covington and tucker cant put ball on the floor and attack the closeouts and cant shoot the midrange
I just said we should not go small! I think the way to win in this league is to draft wing players that have the ability to be special and athletic bigs. I would love Thor at #23 or #24
and great defense beats mediocre defense. the goal is obviously to be as good as you can on both ends of the court, and it would be silly to think Cousins represents 'great defense' in either equation
Well if we are talking about THIS year, with all these injuries then its a bit different. The rockets lost to the eventual champs which you can make the argument of best frontline ever with AD at the 5. The only team in the west the rockets would really have to worry about this year is the clippers since they are better at small ball and still have zubac.
I’d have to take Harden’s hamstring into account then in which case we’re finished and wouldn’t have beaten anyone…probably don’t even make the playoffs with the amount of games he missed this year
Huh? Before his injury Rockets had an awesome defender And Wood showed he can defend our to the perimeter He's not rim protecter but he can definitely switch onto Guards and hold his own.
