I think he should be re-assessed by the February trade deadline. If he has made big strides , then we should retain him. If he is the same player as he is today, then he should be traded.
He is one of less than 10 20 point/10 rebound players in the NBA. The only strides I really want from him are staying healthy. Asking him to be much better is asking him to become one of the truly elite players in the League and, I think, unrealistic. What are you asking him to make big strides in that he actually could? I guess be a better defender?
Defense and rebounding. Some improvement in post footwork around the basket. Health is critical , he can't get big with his frame. Some lean hard muscle in his arms won't hurt. I like him. I want him to max out his ability.
25 years old and an unrestricted free agent in two years, is too old for a rebuild. In summer of 23, we will just have had three straight years of being one of the worst teams in the league, and Wood will be looking for max money, which some dumb team will offer him. He will bolt, and we will look stupid for not cashing in when his value peaked, all the while sabotaging our draft position. How would you feel right now if we kept Olidipo and had the fourth pick rather than the 2nd? Hell, if anything, we should have max cap space in 23. If somehow, we take huge leaps forward and need him back, just sign him in free agency. But for now, we need 19 year olds that we can control for 7 years, not Christain Wood.
Kmart? Tate? those are rotational guys on a good team. KPJ and Wood have yet to prove they are foundational pieces on a playoff team, there is no way I am factoring them in when I am drafting this year. None of those 4 guys are foundational pieces as of yet and it still does not negate the fact that we should not be worried about duplicating talent and drafting because players 'fit' with each other. How the hell is the 23rd and 24th pick gonna get in the way of development? That means you picked the wrong guy at 2 or the latter picks are performing at a very high level. Why the hell are you concerned about market value at this point in a rebuild, at this point in time you should be happy with competition and let the best man win and deal with it from there. I am not saying fit is totally irrelevant but its far down the line when picking in the 1st round and on a team who has no player to yet build around. At this point you draft the most talented guy and let them fight it out on the court. Playing time? Really?
With Jalen Green going at 2, That starts with Texas Longhorns big man Jericho Sims, who registered the second-longest wingspan at the combine at 7'3.25" behind Neemias Queta (7'4") as well as the highest vertical leap at 44.5 inches. And that was before he showed off his mobility and skillset on the floor. Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wassermandidn't have Sims on his pre-draft lottery big board while Sam Vecenie of The Athletic listed Sims as the 100th and final prospect in his pre-lottery rankings. After Sims' showing on Tuesday—to say little of him averaging 9.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game last year for Texas—the 22-year-old center may be one to watch out for come July. .
Very skilled offensive player with advanced ball skills. But Makur lacks vertical pop and he is strictly a zone or drop coverage player on defense due to his heavy feet. No way he is playable in offseason when teams force you to switch.
These 2 picks(22 and 23) could be possibly more monumental to our future success than the #2 pick. Reason being is the talent gap from picks 3-23 is not that big. Some people want to settle with 25 year old rookies or spot up bench players.
Its gonna get in the way cuz young guys need burn, like 30 mins of burn every night. If you got 3 sgs in the same draft how are rooks gonna get pt? This is how guys slip thru the cracks remember the Rox got Cwood, Jeremy Lin and Robert Covington early? We let them go then had to acquire at a premium later on. "Let the best man win" def worked the dudes we kept for those guys didnt stay and we had to pay a higher price for the guy we acquired and let go. We are expecting no 2 to be a franchise player and build around him right, yes or no? It's a simple concept not sure why you cant get it. If you expect no 23 and 24 to fight it out with freaking no 2 guess what you chose the wrong no 2. The assumption is no 2 should be a lot better than 23 and 24 you should be paving the way for the development of no 2 he is expected to be the franchise. If you get Green for example he should be slotted in for 30 mins a night how would you fit pt for 2 other rookie sgs? You get them expecting 5 mins for the 2 other rookies really? This is an example of somebody who just focuses in on the draft but has 0 thought on what happens after. This is esp true if you get Green he is supposed to be the Rox sg for the next 10 yrs. Thats why I bring up trades cuz thats whats gonna happen to 23 and 24 if you pick sgs as well. If you arent confident and think 23 and 24 will somehow be better sgs than Green then guess what you ****ed up. You want no 2 to be a cornerstone of the franchise so why are you making it hard for him by suddenly telling him to fight it out with others and let the best man win? Is that how you endear yourself to your franchise dude telling him you dont trust him and think Joel Ayiyi and Cam Thomas will beat him down? Lol wtf. This is how Cavs spent 4 yrs in the lotto picking guards and end up giving the best guard to Rox for a 2nd rounder.
What do you do with Wall, EGo, Khyri, Armoni and Augustin, especially if unable to trade them? And not even one of your 3 young guards are plus defenders. That is 8 guards, not even counting Tate and KJ, who are both guard sized. How many under 6'6 players do we need?
He is not locked in a 5 yr contract he is in a 2 yr deal and will be expiring next year. Think about why he left Detroit in the first place and you'll know why its best to trade him now...
KPJ is a pg so it would be ok to get Green and Mann, for example. Getting 3 rookie sgs though when we need other positions is just dumb AF. In the 20s the BPA isnt clear nobody can really say who is the gonna be the best dude so why keep taking the same prospect again and again? Surely there are other draftees that are also great picks at that spot.
