I meant it from the standpoint that Bielak is the glorified long man. He was a starter in the minors and at some point this season, his arm was stretched out (May no longer be the case).

he’s the guy who would go in if a pitcher had a random first inning injury or got shelled. Yes, not ideal, but they have no other options like this on the active roster when Javier isn’t available.

Seems like a pretty easy catch if true… do they not know that they have continued surveillance of all bullpens?

I am fine with the number of outings Javier has had. When he comes in the game, he needs to be going at least 2, preferably 3 or 4 for pitching on a starter's rest. If he's going to be a 1-2 inning pitcher, he probably needs a little less rest. His control was off Sunday, but he had wipeout stuff.

Per Baker, Raley was overworked, and they didn't want to use him unless it was a save situation or the 10th. Effectively, Baker's hand was limited to 3 relievers.

With the Skeeters in town, they should have shuttled someone else over.

Wipeout stuff without control is like…

I just hope his control doesn’t continue to regress as a result of either not enough work, not enough consistent schedule/preparation in between work, or starting to pick up some mechanic issues that usually get worked out in longer stints.

...getting three outs before walking/hitting 4 batters in an inning? Granted, we don't know if he would have gotten settled down or given up a 3-run homer. All we know is that the decision to pull him along with 3 others that day left the Astros with an incredibly short pen the following day (it would have been 3 guys if Scrubb wasn't called up) and Javier did not get in enough work.

None of this should be taken as a change in one of Dusty's decisions would definitely change Sunday's loss to a win or significantly have altered the odds to win Sunday's game.

I know the goal/premise/need for his current role. I just don’t know if its going to impact his development/consistency/effectiveness in a positive or negative way, and I really don’t trust Dusty as a part of that development.

I would be happy if his ability to get ahead in the count was just a tad better.

I agree. He either needs to go longer or be used a little more often. I don't trust Dusty either, but how they are using Javier has been better than I expected. I don't think his arm rebounds well relative to other pitchers so I would not try him in back to back situations in the regular season like I expected them to have been doing.

If you're going to throw high BP-speed fastballs, you best not put them out over the plate, gotta get inside.
