It depends on what is motivating him. But I don't see anybody else offering him that kind of money to go to a team that can't win.

    Wait, what?

Im not saying you didn’t see on some social media where the Astros said that, but you have zero idea what they have actually told him, none of us do

Crane already fished out a 7 year deal for Altuve

You guys crack me up posting what the Astros have already told him lol

The Astros didn't say they said it.... Correa did

    https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...-likely-cementing-free-agent-shortstop-class/

"We didn't get close at all," Correa told reporters, including Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle. "They made it every clear to me: we don't believe in big contracts. We don't believe in long contracts." (It's worth noting that Correa also admitted to talking to Lindor for an hour on the night he agreed to his extension, and said he "loves" Lindor's deal.)

As ive stated, none of us really know what he actually wants, or what the Astros will offer

He certainly comes across as a guy who loves being on center stage though, has always carried himself that way. I would be shocked to see him go to a team that can’t win and a franchise that sucks balls

Please post a link of him saying the Astros told him they don’t do long contracts, I would appreciate hearing that

He certainly was not happy with the offer and came out as being offended by it, and he may have even said they wouldn’t give him a long term contract before the season. That’s a lot different than saying the Astros “don’t give out long term contracts”…like I said, they gave Altuve 7 years already so…..

But please prove me wrong, I am the kind of guy who will easily admit being wrong if I am

I could see the Yankees offering him a big contract, Torres had the huge year in 2019 when the juiced ball made many look like sluggers

I could also see a team like Philly get involved

And as stupid as it would be for a team that always needs pitching, I could see the Angels offering up a big contract to him

I added the link to my above post.... post number 63

Also, Altuve's extension addded 5 new years. He still had 2 left on his current deal at the time.

    Yep just read it, again

Maybe you are right and they won’t even talk to him

I sincerely doubt that will be the case though. I wouldn’t have offered him any more than that either before the season. He honestly had never done it for a full season like he is right now, and had never stayed healthy. He keeps this up and it’s a whole new ballgame

Especially if we win it all

To be clear though, he won’t be taking a 6 year deal

And…the new cba will play a huge role in how all of this goes down for him and all the others

Scroll up. He included it in his post. This is the exact reason I say he’s gone.

Because he made a statement when he was pissed?

Or because you really think Crane has decided not to give out long term deals anymore?

both. Or maybe just one. Either way, he’s gone. We wont match the highest bidders. We shoulda locked him up before it came to this. Now he goes to the highest bidder and that is never us. I think he woulda signed before the season for less than lindor but now he will get as close to that as he can. In fact, we should’ve extended him 2 years ago. Yes he’s had injury issues but we all knew for a while now that he is an incredible defensive SS and that he is a very talented hitter. All the Astros needed was a little faith in him and that is what he was asking for. That is what gets you hometown discounts. Now there will be no discount. He’s gonna go to the top bidder.

I don't view paying Carlos Correa 30 million for 7,8,9, or 10 years as great value.

The Astros hired a GM from the Rays. I expect them to act somewhat like them but with a bigger budget.

"Value" to me is Xander Bogaerts essentially being nearly as good as Correa and making 20 million a year instead of 30 plus million.... ALSO, Bogaerts' contract ends at age 33.

Another "value" play is Ketel Marte. Correa will likely make more next year than Ketel will make the next 3 years.

I'm not saying the Astros will or should do it...but they have some prospects on the rise. If Ketel Marte isn't traded at the deadline and available at the offseason I wouldn't mind packaging Hunter Brown with maybe Jeremy Pena (if he comes back and cements his value) and a few lower level guys to land Marte. Ketel Marte is under control for 3 seasons. He makes 8 million next year and then has team options for 10 million and 12 million the following 2 seasons.

Instead of paying Correa 30 million for a decade go get me Ketel Marte for 30 million over 3 years, Starling Marte for 16-18 million for 3 years, and then go sign 2 of the best relievers available in the offseason.... maybe 2 of Kendall Graveman, Raisel Iglesias, or Ian Kennedy. That's how I would rather spend the 46 million the Astros have available this coming offseason.

    Give me this team...

    Altuve 2B
    Brantley LF
    Bregman 3B
    Alvarez DH
    Gurriel 1B
    Tucker RF
    S. Marte CF
    K, Marte SS
    Maldonado C

Rotation: Valdez, McCullers, Garcia, Urquidy, Odorizzi

Bullpen: Pressly, Graveman, Kennedy, Javier, Stanek, Taylor, Baez, Abreu/James/Paredes

Not sure if discussed, but what about breggy to short and kris Bryant at 3rd. Fine with McCormick at CF until Leon comes, and rest of the money on pitching.

I doubt Bregman will be a shortstop going forward due to a variety of reasons and someone in another thread had posted Bryant's comments on the Astros from years past. It wasn't pretty.

From reports I have read lately Bregman would be a well below average shortstop. Even Kevin Goldstein said this, and he should have accurate data on it. Next, Kris Bryant is rightfully going to be looking for a $200 million plus contract. If the Astros are not going to give that kind of term to Correa, I see no way they are giving it to Bryant. McCormick has been a real find. As a back up player he has been excellent. He has been on fire the last month, but his K rate has gone up and his BB rate has gone down. But rarely do guys with a 30%+ K rate do well as a starter. Maybe he is the exception, but I doubt it. I do have hope, however; since his track record shows much better results in those areas. Finally, it seems the Astros favor Leon at SS, as bewildering as that is to me.
