How is it effective when the author is claiming America has not become less racist and tolerant?

It actually feeds right into the Mahers message.

    Who the **** is they?

And nothing in his explanation backs up his premise, what does slavery was different in England than the U.S. have to do with anything?

Do you actually think America has not become less racist and Tolerant?

It's quite obvious you didn't read it - get back to me when you have.

    I did read it.

    All of it.

And even if I did not, the central premise at the top of his tweet is this.

"One of the most popular misconceptions about black history is that over time, America has gradually become less racist and more tolerant.

    That is not true."

Do you agree with that or not?

Do you really believe that’s his central premise or just a headline grabber?

His main point is that racism has evolved beyond “hating the coloreds” and manifests in more subtle but just as damaging forms.

Furthermore, he’s arguing against the concept that we were at “maximum racism” at other beginnings of colonization and that it’s only gotten better since then. As he clearly demonstrated though very specific historic examples, our country has actually seen very significant spikes in racism at times that undo progress made.

So it’s not that we’re equally or more racist today than say 1859, but that at any given time, we may be more or less racist than the recent past.

    Would you disagree with that?

Yes that is his central premise, and it's not even a headline.

The fact that you can't even admit that's his premise is troubling, how can you actually have a debate on the topic if can't even admit what the topic is.

Yes I agree that racism spikes throughout history but is anybody actually stating otherwise.

If that was his premise I would not have an issue but his premise is this

"One of the most popular misconceptions about black history is that over time, America has gradually become less racist and more tolerant.

    That is not true."

    Again

Do you believe that is true?

I’ve already stated my position and it pains me to see you willfully misrepresent his main point for what I suspect is your usual obstinacy and poor reading comprehension.

How the hell am I a misrepresenting his main point when I am quoting word for word what he said his main point is?

How the **** is that poor reading comprehension?

This deflection from you is the actual pain.

I wonder if Maher did the “New Rules” bit again this week or if he actually developed a new bit for once?
