If trading the pick, who would you prefer if available? Tried to find guys who might be had who are somewhat younger... Might involve getting a pick back with one of these players for equal value...
I voted Porter Jr because i think he is quite clearly on his way to being a star while draft picks could always end up being a bust. otherwise the only one I’m interested in is Luka but I’m not sure why there are trade rumors coming up, he will most likely sign the supermax and stay in dallas. Atleast i don‘t see the reason for the rumors
None, Rockets can get the next star for cheap while trading for a already star they will have to pay. Cade or green is a win.
Rockets need to find their own Sabonis, Michael Porter and Lavine. None of those guys were lottery picks.
Nobody on this list. The Rockets need multiple pieces, not one. And nobody on this list is good enough to be a true No. 1 on a contender. Dealing for one of these guys pushes them closer to mediocrity at a time they should be bad to acquire draft picks and young talent. Dealing the No. 2 pick would be a monumental mistake that would set the franchise back years.
You better be certain because there's a 50% chance this #2 pick is out of the league 5-8 years ago....
I would trade the draft (2, 23, and 24) for Zion. This would give the Pelicans 2, 10, 23, and 24 in this draft to rebuild their entire team.
What if the #2 pick is DeAndre ayton or DeAngelo Russell? Lonzo Ball? Is DeAndre Hunter a franchise player yet? Just saying taking the pick you're looking at maybe a 20% chance of getting the player you describe.... I'm not sold on moving the pick but they need defense, shooting, and rim protection.... not sure there is someone at 2 who does that...
If the No. 2 pick isn't a star, that's fine. They're going to be bad for a few years whether this player is a star or not. They need to keep acquiring high draft picks and young talent either way. One player isn't going to turn this franchise around overnight unless that guy is a stud, and I assure you that none of the guys in your poll is that player. Also, I just fundamentally disagree with your logic. If teams always had that mindset, Dallas would have traded their pick instead of drafting Doncic when rebuilding from the Dirk era. Hell, the Rockets would have just traded their No. 1 picks instead of drafting Olajuwon and Yao. You can't just trade every draft pick for fringe star players and expect to contend.
I mean you can do this with every slotted selection in the nba or nfl. That's why luck is a huge part of the "process". I'm not saying I wouldn't trade the pick. I just wouldn't trade it for those on that list.
I think you mean the kings trading their pick for an allstar instead of taking Marvin Bagley... I have no problem using the pick if they really believe in the player, but if stone is wrong it's going to set the team back... I'd consider the sure thing if it's the right player. I don't think they need a star either, i think Porter will be that player in 2 years...
It's not a great list... i would for Brown because he addresses 2 of our 3 needs and is still very young... A backcourt of Porter/Brown could be top 3 in a couple years...
Good job cherrypicking a bad example to try and prove your point. Now go look at every legitimate contender or champion in NBA history, and I'm willing to be that 90+% had at least one star franchise cornerstone that was drafted by that franchise. Historically, teams like these Lakers or the 17-18 Rockets are super rare. And even that Rockets team had Capela. In today's NBA, teams are a little more patchwork than the draft-built squads of the 60s-90s, but even recent superteams have had at least one drafted star player (Pierce in Boston, Wade in Miami, Kyrie in Cleveland, the Warriors, etc.). You can't attract other talent unless you already have talent to work with. And I don't think that adding the guys you have in this poll are going to attract other stars. Legitimate star players who want to win championships are not going to go out of their way to sign for a team whose best player is Zach Lavine, Domatas Sabonis or Jaylen Brown. Especially in Houston, which isn't the most attractive media market/destination. If Dallas wants to trade us Doncic for the No. 2 pick or Milwaukee wants to move on from Giannis? Dope, but that's not happening. So if Stone makes this mistake, you know what it's going to lead to? A .500 basketball team with no cap space that will have cap room in two years, but no legitimate stars interested in signing here, which will lead to overpaying second-tier stars and even more mediocrity. Is that what you really want? Because if so, I think you're definitely in the minority among Rockets fans. Also, I don't mind optimism in some of these young guys. I like KPJ and think he's got potential, but to assume a 21-year-old with off-the-court issues coming off a "career season" in which all advanced stats basically say he was a well-below average NBA player is going to be a "star in two years" is just naive, IMO. If KPJ develops into a star, amazing, but you can't give the keys to a franchise to that kid and operate thinking that he's going to wake up in two years and be a 25/8/5 guy. That's a terrible way to run a professional sports franchise.
