Agreed. Combined no hitters, while still an accomplishment, just don’t have the same feel. the one in Yankee stadium became special due to the circumstances (Oswalt got hurt, using 6 pitchers total is never a plan for any game, let alone a no hitter in one of the most historic settings). but then one in 2019 with Sanchez, et. Al… I only just remembered it when trying to make this point. Did not cross my mind last night, which you think it would given the similar set up.
Historically managers have chased things like that, and I think that's okay. With 162 game season I think it's hard to argue that going all in for 1 game is going to set back your pitcher rest all that bad. However, I'm also cool with Dusty focusing on what is really important. The Athletics deserve every bit of our respect. I'm not even remotely relaxing now that we have regained the lead. It's a long season, and they are a scrappy, annoying, most-punchable face in the universe type of team that isn't going anywhere. We are going to have to earn this, and right now we are. Last night was honestly a perfect situation to get Bielak some work, no hitter notwithstanding, it just didn't work out bc the baseball gods said no... Spoiler
Ugh, sucks. This a-hole wouldn't even make the Cleveland Indians team on the Major League movie roster......
It is the plan for the 20 games. They will probably wait until closer to the end of the 20 games to make additional decisions.
If they were record chasing, I would imagine Javier being left in longer more than Pressly being used.
1.275 WHIP this year. That's decent. Not great. But decent. Can't blame him for being rattled by getting the Angel Hernandez special.
When the truth becomes less important than the narrative. I wasn't aware of it. I wasn't thinking about it TOO much. These are the answers of a young player searching for the narrative he's supposed to say rather than the TRUTH. On a night everything falls into place, the blown call by ANGEL would have been followed by an inning ending double play and Pressly would have finished it off with a perfect 9th. Yes! When you're 3 outs away from a no-hitter, you go for it. Then you inform Stanek that Pressly is only available for the 9th because YOU have faith he can do the job tomorrow.
To Dusty: If you start Chaz tonight put him down in the order, like batting 6th or 7th. He has 40 K's in 112 AB's. Too much for a 2nd place hitter.
Yeah, I agree. I like Chas, and I think it's safe to say he's exceeded our expectations this season. But he has no business batting second in a lineup this loaded. There's no shame batting 6th or 7th when literally every player ahead of you in the lineup boasts an .880+ OPS.
If Baker had put in Pressley on a late, wet night in a 10-0 game in the midst of a 20 game stretch, he should be fired.
I don't remember the Sanchez combined no-hitter because I wasn't watching much baseball in 2019. I hadn't learned how to pirate the live-stream yet. If MLB wasn't so obtuse about blackouts of the only team you really want to watch, I would probably have purchased their package for the last ten years. But why purchase a package that doesn't include your local team? KRAZY!
The Fun Train keeps on chuggin' !! This lineup is like cruel and unusual punishment for opposing pitchers. Almost unfair - AND I LIKE IT!! Suddenly our pitchers are getting healthy and rounding into form? Look out.
All things being equal (or at least most things), I'd rather my team execute a no-hitter rather than not. All of them are historic, special, and worthy of note. I'm proud the Astros franchise is one of the more prolific teams in MLB history to accomplish the feat.
This is like when you want to buy something from an ebay seller and he has a 98% . How bad can it be? just 2% from a perfect seller rating. Then you click on their reviews only to find an abundance of buyers wondering why their shipment is missing or order not as described.
